Evangelical Protestants are doing what they can to make sure the rest of us know their boy's still in the Oval Office, notwithstanding Pope Benedict's ability to draw the biggest party in the WH since Andy Jackson's first inaugural bash. Seems like some people in this country have very strong cautionary views about a defacto religious monopoly over the upcoming National Day of Prayer.
"Read all about it" in the Christian Post. (same link)
When it comes to (who) the folks raising this complaint have reason(s) to be concerned about, (i.e. either, or both, of the Dobsons, Jim or Shirley) I think they might have a point, or two.

I'm a little confused about this. From the article:
But Becky Armstrong, a spokeswoman for the National Day of Prayer Task Force, said the same application for coordinators has been “used for years,” according to RNS.
What is the "NDP Task Force"? I mean, could Jews on First organize their own task force and have a Jewish-led Day of Prayer, of course inviting all interested folks to attend. Or is this Task Force THE Task Force??
I struggle with this issue sometimes. I know we're supposed to believe that Muslims pray to the same God, but if I were part of a prayer group, I don't think I'd want to pray the same prayer as a Muslim. I would listen to their prayer, I guess, but I wouldn't pray WITH them because I still am not convinced we're talking to the same Guy.
With Jews, of course, I would not have such difficulty. They have a partial understanding of the Triune God, but at least I would agree that it's the same God.
Would I pray with a Hindu to Krishna? Certainly not....
If I were going to attend a prayer event, I would want it to be a Christian event. Maybe I'm close-minded, but that's how I feel.
As an LCMS Lutheran, we were told not to pray with ELCA Lutherans. At least I've gotten past that!

Pardon me some momentary politically pragmatic wisecracking, but there are times when I think it'd probably be best if the parties pick one of the best poker players from each religion. The House could send its Jewish rep, the Senate it's Episcopalian Senator, the Executive its Baptist bureaucrat and the Nation's Magisterium can send over one of our DREAM TEAM FIVE.
Whomever wins the game gets to pick the Leading Cleric for the Prayer Day.
Psssst. Don't tell anyone it's a done deal since the Supreme Court is the Ultimate House that never loses!
