Too bad the Pope doesn't have what fellow Catholic, Angelina Jolie has, very good looks and youth. Otherwise he would've made Time Magazine's List of 100 Most Influential People. (I don't know where Brad Pitt's baptismal papers were filled out at. Don't care either. But Time included him in on a package deal, I guess.)
The Vatican had a diss of it's own for Time.
"I am happy about this absence (of Pope Benedict XVI) from the list, whose composition is kind of bizarre and arbitrary," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told AFP.
" ... kind of bizarre and arbritrary ... " Given today's "intellectual climate" and upside-down views towards real fame vs. celebrityhood, I wouldn't say it's "bizarre" at all. It's perfectly "normal."
Hillaire Belloc would be proud, very proud, indeed!
"Lombardi said he doubted whether the magazine took fully into account the pope's spiritual and moral authority.
"This year's list does include the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama as well as the patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church, Bartholomew I of Constantinople.
(Oh Come On -- What did Bartholomew I of Constantinople do? Or compared to whom?)
"The diverse list includes Democratic White House hopefuls Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain, in that order, as well as cinema power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, former tennis ace Andre Agassi and "The Kite Runner" author Khaled Hosseini.
"However, Benedict, who became pope in 2005, was on the list for the past three years.
"Others left off the list this year include Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Inasmuch as the last guy mentioned is a complete and total whack job, he's a dangerous whack job and very dangerously influential -- and one worthy of keeping on your short list of dangerously influential people, as Don Corleone would with potentially dangerous people on his short list.
I can't wait to see the rest of this list. Oh, but there's
Miley Cyrus (oops, naughty pix might break her pappy's achy breaky heart, but she beat out Benedict. )
Robert Downey Jr. (finally grew up)
Muqtada al-Sadr (wanted for murder, but beats out Benedict.)
Vladimir Putin (definitely keep him close)
Oprah Winfrey (and no Dr. Phil?)
Tony Blair (well, he did saddle up with us)
Bruce Springsteen (this "boss" beats out Benedict?)
Tim Russert (But no James Carville? Recount: Now!)
George Clooney (Liberalism's Clark Gable )
George W. Bush (Clooney's favorite prez.)
- But at the bottom, bless their achy breaky souls, Time's honchos added this nice touch, or touche'
"Essay That's a direct quote folks. I promise, no wisecracking from me, that came directly from Time. Have fun and take them up on it.
The only names I'm surprised not to see were Bill Maher's and Rudy Giuliani's. We'll let Bill Donohue, Cardinal Eagan and the Israeli Defense Force have fun with those knuckleads.

Sorry, but I have no time for Time. My news week is taken up by other news worthy journals, mostly Catholic news. So all the US news and world reports that I pay much attention to are those found in places such as The World Over, Catholic World Report etc. Oh...I'll peruse some of the stuff online, but, having been a newscaster many years ago on a couple of stations in my yoot, I learned to believe only about 10 percent of what the conventional press prints. The rest is fiction, pornography, gossip and trash.

Well, see, what the Pope needs to do is to get some car designers to "rick out his ride" so the Popemobile has some "ooomph" to it, so that he can blow people off the highway at 200 mph! Then he needs to get some PR people to work on his image and clothes so that he looks like one of the NASCAR race drivers. He should show up at NASCAR events, NFL, NBA and MLB events glad handing the crowd! He should get somebody to write a good theme song for him and have Miley Cyrus sing it for him. He could triple the membership of the Catholic Church and triple vocations without compromising any of the Catholic Church's beliefs! Attachment: trickedoutpopemobile.jpg (Downloaded 43 times)

I meant to say "trick out his ride" although I suppose he could always put a picture of CajunRick on it! As for first appearance, I am thinking Richmond. I figure that even the Pope wouldn't want to go all the way to Bristol, ha, ha! Race fans, maybe, but probably not the Pope!

I'm not so sure about Richmond being as much a Bible Bastion as Bristol might be , but I'm sure Benedict would be in enough of a good sportin' mood to take in the words "Gentlemen, Open Your Bibles" before he takes a spin around Bristol's Circus-Maximus-like track.
In an other sportsmanlike gesture, the Pope could allow for George Clooney (Irish Catholic neph of Rosemary Clooney) to do his driving for him; far better than Tom "Days of Thunder" Cruise, a very lapsed catholic. Or, the Holy Father could show them all he's still very influential enough to get behind the wheel of his revved up Popemobile and demonstrate he can still drive like a Bavarian on the Autobahn!
Not even a moonshine runnin' redneck could catch a Bavarian driving a Beemer in a hurry. Not even with a Bible on the dash.
One thing for sure: I'd make TIme pay for this and yank its credential for the event in favor of THe Wanderer or National Catholic Register. That'll teach those dissenter-loving libs!
