It is good to see young bishops take the helm.
Our diocese welcomed a new bishop last summer, Michael Burbidge, and everyone seems to be in love with him. Young and enthusiastic, he has made the recruitment of young men and women to the priesthood and religious life a priority.
Recently, he refereed a "friendly" basketball game between a catholic high school team and seminarians. He was good- naturedly booed as befits all such officials.
His only drawback is that he is a confirmed Philadelphia Eagles fan (his hometown). But his other qualities greatly outweigh that problem. We feel blessed!
God Bless!

Better an Eagles fan than a Panthers fan! OF course, as a Cajun Catholic, I've always considered being a Saints fan a religious obligation.

Actually, I am a Tampa Bay Bucs fan. That doesn't make you, a Saints fan, any happier! We can agree that we don't like the Panthers though.
Regards

But since the Panthers have a Cajun quarterback (Jake Delhomme), the Panthers are above the Bucs in the pecking order of Cajun fandom. We do award Tobasco points to teams with prominent players who speak without an accent. Tobasco points are also awarded to any team with a quarterback named "Manning" or who graduated from a Louisiana university. Teams with well-loved former Saints players (such as Morton Andersen and Joe Horn) also get Tobasco points. Any Tobasco points otherwise earned by the Atlanta Falcons are automatically nullified. By definition, any team playing against the Falcons automatically gets one Tobasco point, making them the preferred team by a minimum of one point to zero.
(Rules for postseason play are different if the Saints have already been eliminated. Saints fans are allowed to root for the Falcons to win, but only by an Andersen field goal in the final second or in overtime. This is an exception that will be eliminated when Andersen decides to retire. As we all know from Canon Law, the mandatory retirement age is 75 for everyone but the pope.)

Oh! May the Good Lord help us all once someone mentions a sports team! - especially where men are concerned! Now they're off and running and we won't hear the end of it! Just kidding, guys. Yeah, I know... pesky woman jumping in. OK. Go ahead. Carry on...
