Just a word about this new category. It is a spin-off from the Conversion Stories forum, including those threads which deal with obstacles and opposition to one’s entering or returning to religious practice in the Catholic Church on the part of others, especially one’s family and friends.

The forum moderators and helpers have talked for a long time about establishing this as a separate category because it is a common occurrence and one that strikes deep into the sensibilities of people who are personally called by God to the true faith. Some people, indeed, are convinced that it is impossible for them to be Catholic because of a spouse or someone else close to them that is bent on preventing it. One of the longest and most-read threads in the entire forum, “When Only One Converts,” is a testimony to the many lives in this turmoil.

We invite you, therefore, whoever you are that suffer in this way, to give voice to your sentiments and receive in turn advice and consolation from the many others who have suffered before you. Life does not have to be hopeless. Sometimes another person’s experience can lead to a resolution of the conflict you are facing.

Since you mentioned the phrase, "When Only One Converts" I'll make a specific mention of the book with that title by Lynn Nordhagen. It is an easy read and quite informative. The book contains some stories with a positive ending and some stories which do not end that way. However, whatever the result of the actions by the people in the stories, the book gives the reader a good view of the processes and a perspectives of the situations which can develop under such circumstances. I am in that situation and I found the book to be a good source of support. :)
