Why do Mormons pray with their arms folded across their chest? As much as I've read on Mormonism, and speaking to some, I've never gotten an answer.
From a psychological standpoint this is a defensive posture. I just don't understand the reasoning behind this.

| I've met Mormons by the dozens and read lots of Mormon books, been to Mormon funeral services, and I've never seen this or heard of it.

This posture in prayer was a cultural expectation and I was never aware of the origin of the practise.
This is the most common explanation for the usual LDS prayer posture:
While folding your arms is not required when praying, many Latter-day Saints acquired the habit when they were small children. Mormons believe it is easier to teach small children to pray without distraction and with reverence when their arms are folded and not available to do other things.

Thank you, James!
That is a good explanation of the posture.
