Hi folks, just introducing myself.

I found out about this web site from Gretchen.  She mentioned there's a chat next wednesday about Mary (and I'd just written up a lengthy blog post about devotions to Mary leading to Jesus), so I figured I'd sign up.

We're glad to have you here with us.  Welcome to CHN.  We'd love to hear your faith story when you feel comfortable telling us about it.  Meanwhile, dive right in and ask questions or contribute in any way that makes you feel comfortable.  Are you a cradle Catholic, or did you come into the Church later in your life?  Or perhaps did you leave for awhile and come back?  Whatever your story, we'd love to hear it.

Welcome again to the Coming Home Network.

It is in his profile.  If you click his user name and choose Profile, you'll find it.  Or you can click "Visit Homepage" and you'll go there directly.

We'd love to hear your faith story when you feel comfortable telling us about it.

Thanks for the warm words of welcome.

I'm the seventh of eight children, four boys and four girls.  My mom was raised Catholic, my dad was raised Baptist (although a few years ago he went through RCIA).  My oldest brother is a priest, a pastor at a church in Allendale, NJ.  I entertained thoughts of the priesthood as a kid (especially when my brother was ordained) but I'm engaged to be married in two months, so the priesthood is not an option for me.  I do feel called to the diaconate, though.  Perhaps that's God compromise with me for falling in love with Kristin.

I've grown up with the Novus Ordo Rite.  I've recently started reading a lot of Vatican II-era documents on the liturgy and the Eucharist (as my blog list shows) to get a better understanding of how the current Rite should be celebrated (since I've learned of some very upsetting abuses) and to enhance my own personal Eucharist devotion.  I know of the Tridentine Rite; although I've never attended it, I've read its Missal.  I've never attended another Catholic Rite, but I have attended an Orthodox Divine Liturgy (since I don't know where the nearest Eastern Rite Catholic church is), and thought it was quite beautiful.

I wasn't very Catholic during college.  It was partly due to feeling "spoiled" by my home parish and never finding a parish at RPI to match it... but also due to me being on my own and finding so many distractions.  When I finally left school after 7 years (after changing my major once, and having no degree) I moved to the Princeton area to work.  I'd worked with a company over a previous summer, and they wanted to hire me full-time.  I rented my first apartment (which I'm moving out of in two months, so my future wife and I will have room for all her stuff) and made a point to register myself at the local parish (a five minute walk away) and get involved.  I had to recenter my life on God.

And I have.  I'm a Lector at Queenship of Mary in Plainsboro, NJ.  I'm an altar server during weekday Masses sometimes.  I'm also on the RCIA team, and I'm being considered for a position on the pastoral council.  I've gone on a handful of retreats over the past six months.  I attend a couple Scripture Studies, when I can.  My sister gave me the Liturgy of the Hours a year or so ago, and I try to say Morning, Evening, and Night Prayers every day.  I'm learning to say parts of it (and other prayers) in Latin, because I think the liturgy will see a return of Latin in the common prayers (and I welcome that).  And like I said, I feel called to the permanent diaconate (a couple decades from now).

Enough bragging.  Sorry.

My blog is http://thecrossreference.blogspot.com/ and I've been writing in it for over a year.  It started out as a place to record my Bible Study notes (a study of the synoptic gospels my parish did), but it's evolved to hold a lot more.

Time for sleep.  I look forward to participating in the forum.  Good night.

I could only find one Eastern Catholic church in New Jersey, and it's more than an hour away from you.  There are 72 in Pennsylvania, however, so one of them might well be closer.  You can find a list of the parishes here.  There are also several in the New York City area that would be closer than the one in Patterson, NJ.

As beautiful as the Orthodox liturgy is, the Byzantine is that much more beautiful because you are welcomed at the Eucharistic banquet.  If I lived in an area as rich in the presence of our eastern Sister Churches, I would sample as many of them as I possibly could.

Japhy,

Just wanted to say "Welcome, fellow Cradle Catholic." :) Hope you find this forum to be a great source of info and fellowship. I think it's a good place to be. Hope you will, too.

Welcome aboard! Oh, and congratulations on your up-coming marriage! I pray you and your fiancee will be richly blessed!

Hi and welcome~  My husband and I are revert/convert respectively and were gone foraging in the Evangelical world for 26 years and returned to the CC on Dec. 8 2004.

We have a blog also    http://revertconvert.blogspot.com

Come by and visit a while.  I am excited as can be about going to ROMA to see Papa Benedict in May with Scott and Kimverly Hahn and Mike Aquilina with my friend, Kris, from KVSS, our local Catholic radio station.  I volunteer there and recently got to see Scott here at our parish where I had him sign my ROME SWEET HOME book, one of three I read in one weekend (Dec. 4, of 2004) that convinced me to get back to HOME and not waste anymore time...the Tiber was beckoning and I took the plunge!  What a swim it was and has been and how I LOVE BEING CATHOLIC!

I also have a poetry blog going   http://underthepoetree.blogspot.com

I'll be dropping by yours soon!

PAX,
pp
