Today my husband decided to drop in on our daughter while she was at work.  She works at Friendly's on the weekends, so all he has to do is sit in her section.

He was introduced to the lady who trained our daughter when she first started working at the restaurant.  The lady began telling my husband about her family's financial woes and how her husband tends to fret over money matters.  My husband brought up the passage in which Jesus says, "Do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall wear....Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be yours as well."  He could tell that the lady had heard this passage before.  Then she mentioned that she was Catholic and used to attend the same parish that I have been attending.  She stopped attending because she was hurt by the manner in which the older priest (not the one who has been so understanding and patient with me) treated her mother.

When my husband mentioned this to me, I knew immediately which priest it was because I have heard complaints about him before.  I said to my husband that a mature Christian does not allow the weaknesses of other pastors or members in the congregation to keep them from being faithful to our Lord.  If that were the case, no one would ever attend church and all churches would be shut down.

Anyway, I thought it was a rather interesting set of circumstances that my husband ended up meeting this Catholic woman where our daughter works, and reminding her of Jesus' words not to be anxious about her life.  I will pray for her that she does not allow what she thinks to be the wrong doing of one priest to keep her from Mass.

Darlene

God's peace.  One of the Church Fathers said something to the effect that Hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.  The judgement of priests and bishops who scatter the flock of Christ is going to be fearsome indeed.  Blessings, ~Br_Carlo~

Nietsche once said that he might have been a Christian had he ever met one.  Maybe that renouned philosopher required too much and perhaps other things prevented him from making the move toward faith.  It seems to me that our complex, fast-paced, and discontented culture provides many opportunities (for those who wish to withdraw from the practice of  religious faith) to rationalize and thereby withdraw from responsibilities.  The cost to those of us who do that is loss of Grace, loss of "community", and loss of identity.  It places [us] at risk.  I say "us" because fidelity is sometimes compromised by planned diversions which  contradict faithful practice of the Faith.  (...fishing trips... etc.)    If all the "Catholics"  in our small town came to Mass once a month,  we would have to build a much larger church and hall,  but  what  a  blessing  that  would  be  for  our  town  and  for  our  parish.
