Hi all,
It's been such a long time! I seem to be "not so needy" for information lately. I don't know if it's because my chemo has affected my brain activity (although it has been difficult to even read through an entire book), or if it's because I've been too preoccupied with my cancer - and life overall - to be really "studying", or if I am simply in a different place spiritually, at the moment. You know, more internally working out how I am living my faith, rather than trying to learn what my faith is.
But, I check in from time to time to see how everyone's doing. Here's what's going on for me.
* I am having my last chemo treatment next week, on 12/12. I should be over any side effects before Christmas and be able to enjoy it. I am having surgery probably the second week of January and then starting radiation three weeks after that. I have had a cold/chest congestion for two months now. Hopefully, it won't cause my surgery to be postponed. I am having a hard time healing, because the chemo wipes out my white blood cells, and so I basically relapse every three weeks. It seems strange to be almost done with phase 1.
* My oldest daughter?? So much to say. After signing her up for the Hope Institue, with the schooling/counciling program, her best friend and trouble making buddy dropped out, and so did daughter. She just refused to return after her friend left, because they had become security blankets for each other - two days of school and then drop out. After several, several weeks, we finally got her signed up for independent home studies, because they would not let her return to school until she made up her credits, which she wanted so badly to do. She seems to have returned to the daughter I used to have. It has been about a month since I have worried about her (in the context of not knowing where she is or what she's doing). When she goes out, she is with at least some people we have met. She either gets home on time, or even early (gasp), or calls to explain why she is late and then is not very late. She has been helping around the house, been nice to her sisters and her parents, and even says "I love you", again. We have had some talks when she has expressed sorrow for having made so many mistakes, from lying to us so much to messing up in her schooling. Pray that she keeps being "her old self"
* I got a new nephew, which affected my raw wounds, but I am handling it much better than I ever thought I could. I haven't met him yet, but am hoping I can be a loving aunt to him. We'll see. I am still working on forgiveness about the whole thing. I am being someone to talk to for a lady I know who has just experienced her first miscarriage, and I am so thankful to God that He is allowing me to be open to her grief when everyone around her is expecting her to "get over it". How I hate that phrase. And, I have found out that my mother had a miscarriage long, long ago. So, I am excited to know that I have a sibling waiting to meet me someday, and an aunt or uncle keeping my Mary Erin company. I'm so glad I'm catholic and have such an understanding of the communion of saints.
* I joined the choir at my church but have missed several weeks because of my persistent cough. I probably won't be able to rejoin until after the Christmas holiday, but they wait patiently for me. They are great, caring people.
Peace and blessing to you, my friends.
In the hands of a loving Christ,
Laura

Thank you for thinking of us, Laura. We continue to pray for you, and wait patiently for you to return on a more regular basis (even if we can't sing together!).

| Laura, I am fairly new to the forums, however, I am sorry to learn about your problems and pray for God's healing for you and for God's blessings upon you and your family. Regarding your daughter, I am assuming that she may have been in public schools. My wife, who is a child protective services social worker, and I, through other sources, have been aware of much about public schools, both here in Virginia and in other states, which make me feel that many families would be better off if their children can attend private Christian schools/parochial schools or be home schooled. I am not sure what independent home studies you may be using, however, if I may recommend either the Seton Home School (an excellent Roman Catholic home school program) or A Beka Academy (a protestant yet excellent home school program), if possible, I would encourage you to consider continuing to have your daughter home school, using a program like Seton or A Beka, and keeping your daughter out of public school. While there are excellent public schools out there, very sadly, many public schools have become pretty much "dens of iniquity" with much misbehavior and many bad influences. Anyway, again, I pray that God will bless and heal you and bless and guide your daughter.

Thank you very much for the prayers and advice. Unfortunately, my husband is very anti-catholic (and really antagonistic toward christianity, actually). That has rubbed off on my daughter. She is doing public school home studies. Hopefully, when she returns to school next year, she will have learned to care about her schooling, or at least not want to mess up and fall back to where she is now.
Love much,
Laura

| Laura, it is so reassuring to hear from you. I have been wondering how you are, and have meant to send a PM to you to see if you are alright. It is good to hear how well your daughter is doing. Mother-Daughter love can be nurturing for both of you! We will pray for you to do well in surgery. God bless

Dear Laura,
Just this past week, I had thoughts about you. I wondered how you were doing with your chemo treatments. A very close friend of mine had breast cancer a number of years ago. I stood by and prayed for/with her as she went through all the various stages, from chemo treatments to a total mastectomy, to breast reconstruction. Today she is in full remission and has been since 1993. So there is life after breast cancer afterall.
I will remember you in my prayers today. May God richly bless you with a calm assurance that He is beside you at all times. "And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart." Galatians 6:9.
In Christ's Love,
Darlene

Laura,
Hi. Long time! I'd been away for several months myself, and when I wandered back recently I noticed I hadn't really seen anything written by you - not that I've really been looking too deeply. I'm still trying to catch up on what's been going on here. Haven't had a lot of time lately. But I have been thinking of you and wondering how you're doing.
Dear Laura! I know you have a lot on your plate. I continue to pray for you and hope that things will improve for you. Your perseverance in the Faith provides such inspiration! God bless you!
JMJ
