My apologies to all for leaving so abruptly. My computer locked up and it's taken me two hours to get back online. Thanks to all who participated, especially the new members. We were happy to have you with us.

I think if you dipped your mother board in DPT solution, it would prevent problems like "lockup"; wouldn't it?

Hey, when my computer locks up, I just hit it with a hammer! Gotta show these computers who is boss! Tell 'em, "COMPUTE THIS!!!" Then "WHAM" with the hammer!!
But, SERIOUSLY, my wife works for a Virginia county which has a fairly "on the ball" computer department. They recently sent out an email, she said, that mentions that apparently there are some "viruses" and "spyware" going around which (I have no idea how) can affect online chat and can be spread in that manner, if I understood correctly. I have also heard that when some popular TV shows are on the air (such as Dancing with the Stars and others) which provide the option of online voting or online contacts of various kinds, it can affect the entire Internet, causing glitches and lag time, etc. I guess all we can do is to keep our antivirus software up to date and pray that our computers don't get infected! Although we should feel Christian charity for them, to a certain extent, sometimes I do give in to a desire that all these virus spreaders would be caught, whipped with a cat o' nine tails then put in a special prison where they would have to work, repairing infected computers and helping fight the other virus spreaders!

So happens I work as a technical services rep for an Internet provider, after operating my own consulting business for the better part of 20 years. I'm well into the "expert" level myself. My computer is old and slow and I try to do too many simultaneous things with it, and sometimes it gets so bogged down that it is easier to shut it down than to wait for all of the processes to finish. That's what I mean by "locked up". It wasn't really locked, it was just seriously lagging. This is not the first time it happened and it won't be the last. Bottom line is I need a new computer, but I can't afford one right now.

COOL! I am Impressed with your expertise! At least you don't have to hit your computer with a hammer like I do, ha, ha! I also hope you don't have a glacially slow dial up Internet connection like I do! I live only about 20 miles from Richmond, VA, where they have all sorts of high speed connection, but out here in the "wilds" of western Hanover County, we only have dial up. I've been trying to get local officials to pressure the telephone company and other companies to get high speed out here, and so have many others, but so far no luck. Isn't St. Clare supposed to be the patron saint of the Internet? Maybe we should pray to her for help, ha,ha! Meanwhile I hope that ol' Santa Claus will bring you a new computer!
