Topic: "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary"
The room is available at http://chnetwork.org/chat.html. It is accessible ONLY by registered, activated CHNI forum members.
For introductory treatments you may want to read, to foster discussion, see my papers:
"All Have Sinned . . . " (Mary?)
Biblical Overview: The Blessed Virgin Mary
Catholic Marian Doctrines: A Brief Biblical Primer
The Imitation of Mary
Is Mary Worshiped by Catholics? (The Latria / Dulia Distinction)
Did Jesus Renounce Marian Veneration? (Lk 11:27-28)
A Biblical and Theological Primer on Mary Mediatrix
Human, Pauline, and Marian Distribution of Divine Graces: Not an "Unbiblical" Notion After All?
That's not to imply at all that there aren't many other treatments out there besides my own (!!). There are many papers from Catholic Answers, Pat Madrid, EWTN, etc. These were just handy, and I'm in a hurry at the moment, so here they are!

I once heard of a joke told by a Catholic Priest. It seems that our Lord Jesus was dealing with the woman who was about to be stoned for adultery. When our Lord said, "Let that one among you who is without sin cast the first stone!", a rock came whizzing overhead and went "POW" right into the woman! Our Lord looked in the direction the rock had come and said, with perplexity, "MOTHER!!!" (addressing His Mother Mary, of course). Oh well, having shared that, guess I better look up the number of St. Ann's Catholic Church, over in nearby Ashland, VA, and ask the Priest if he will hear my confession tomorrow! SIGH! 'Scuse me!

Will there be a test?
No tests! Not even multiple choice:Which of the following best describes Mary?
A) A Goddess to be adored and worshipped, kinda like those Wiccan female deities
B) Mother of God the Father
C) The female equivalent of Jesus, so Catholicism won't be patriarchal
D) The Immaculate Mother of God the Son and Perpetual Virgin
So, no tests or quizzes, but I will say that if you don't know the answer to this one, you are in pretty bad shape and need to attend this chat!
Speaking of Mary humor, Kimberly Hahn told one (paraphrase):"Jesus, Joseph and Mary were sitting at dinner and all of a sudden a fight broke out, and so Joseph quickly admitted, "well, it must be MY fault!'"
It's a wonder Joseph didn't develop a serious inferiority complex, living with two sinless people; one being God the Son.

And the other the Mother of God!
I have a feeling Joseph led a pretty sinless life himself after his visitation by the angel. He had to be a proper spouse for Mary and a proper example to Jesus.
Then again, he was a carpenter, so if he ever hit his thumb with a hammer, Jesus might have learned a few new words!

Well, in answer to Dave's quiz above, of course, I would pick Answer D!!!
As for Joseph hammering away in the carpenter shop, I have heard of some Catholic children being taught to avoid swearing by saying "Joseph, Mary, Jesus!!!" So maybe Joseph said, upon hitting his thumb, "ME, Mary, Jesus!!"

Hope to see many people at the chat, and Marshall gets a gold star on his forehead for answering the non-optional quiz question.

I was actually doing some of my homework (which I'm not renowned for ) when I stumbled across this gem
Fifth, there are plenty of other sinful, "weak" models in Scripture that we can relate to as like us in that sense: vacillating, overzealous Peter, perhaps proud, tempestuous Paul, stuttering Moses and his wimpy brother Aaron, blame-shifting Adam, murderous and adulterous David, doubting Thomas, deceptive Jacob, sexually-weak Samson, drunken, incestuous Noah, etc. I don't think it is implausible for God to spare one, lone human being (His earthly mother at that) from the onslaught of original sin. In fact, I wonder myself why He didn't make more people sinless!
Now I'm no full time apologist, just a humble photocopier repairman, but somewhere in the dark cobweb infested sections of my brain I seem to remember that the drunken incestuous one was Lot not Noah, or was there another Noah?
Regards Dave

It was Noah (Genesis 9:21). Lot had a different experience in Sodom (Genesis 19) which you are probably confusing with it because of a few remote similarities.
