They all went off to the Anglican church- My DD when asked if she was coming back for the later service said "no I am going to the Catholic service with my Mum" apparently that met with silence- she then told my DH that she was joining the Catholic Church and asking a friend from school to be her sponsor. ( fine with me as long as the girls is approved by the Msr.) My son was hugged by one of the congregation and while she was hugging him she apologized for his "liberal teachers???:?" At their Catholic school? anyhow that infuriated him because as he says- it was a back handed slap at ME for joining the Catholic church. He then went to the back room and thanked the assistant priest being so good to acolyte for all this time. My Dh said that as they were leaving he saw quite a huddle and asked if my ears were burning yet My Dh has told me he will talk to our son while we are gone tonight. He feels that it is pride and that the kid might have been kind of mouthy about the via media of Anglicanism and it is so hard for a 16 year old to eat his words. I want so badly for them to come home and out of the storms of protestantism- as far as I can see the Anglican church's fondations were built on sand...Last edited on Tue Dec 25th, 2007 12:06 am by sewnsew

Kim, I am happy to hear of your daughter's decision.
May the peace of Christ reign in our hearts.

| Merry Christmas- to you both- our family definitely needs your prayers. When my daughter goes back to school she will be talking to her Theology teacher. He had told me at parent teacher conferences that because the kids attend the school they don't have to go through RCIA which in our case would be best. I am hoping too that the kids will be allowed to join the church at a regular liturgy given my son's difficulty with public speaking.

Kim! Thanks for the story - I hope you all persevere. What a trial for you.
Well, you know, about the "liberal teacher" comment - you may want to understand what they meant, if indeed it was about Catholics... My understanding of Catholics out in that area is that a LOT are terribly under-catechized and liberal! For some areas, Anglicans are the more conservative choice :?
Congratulations on your successful kids.
Merry, Merry Christmas.

Praise God, Kim. Let's continue to hope and pray for the best in your family's situation. God is good. I have read many many stories of things eventually turning out okay when people decided to convert. Truth has an inherent drawing power that error doesn't have.
On the other hand, we can rejoice that there is a lot of truth preserved in the teaching of our Protestant brethren and that we need not feel that we are rejecting our past completely when we accept the fullness of Catholicism. I'm very grateful to God for my own 13 years as an evangelical Protestant. I learned so much that I still believe today, and which is not contrary to Catholicism at all.

| I think once they have had a little distance from the whole issue they will look back and be grateful for their Anglican years..... Once the kids have disentangled them selves from the Anglican church I will write a note to the "Acolyte Mom" and tell her how instrumental her teaching and the program was in teaching my kids a sacramental view of liturgy and church and really gave them a strong ethical sense of church being part of everyday life. I know much of what my kids have learned also was learned in the home but our church di have a huge impact on their formative years.

| There was a time when my Mother and I had some conflicts. I also had some reservations about the Christian Church denomination in which I was raised. However, unknown to me at the time, I can look back and see how God used the Episcopal Church (yes, I said the Episcopal Church, ha, ha) and, later, the Baptist denomination to keep me in the Christian faith and to help me grow. We must always remember that Jesus is the "Good Shepherd" and He will continue to seek His lambs no matter where they wander. He can use things that we would never have even dreamed of to lead His children home. The important thing for us to do is to pray for our children, to pray for family and friends and others.
