Hello to All!  I have been a lurker for quite awhile, and thought I would finally take the “leap” and officially join the forum.  I am a HUGE fan of the site, and have learned much about my faith.

If you’ll indulge me, here is my story…

I am a Cradle Catholic.  I am 1 of 5 children (I am the oldest and the only girl).  My parents are both Cradle Catholics and very devout in their faith, for which I am very grateful.  I never really questioned my faith, as I believed all that my parents taught.  This turned out to be a flaw.  In high school, I met my future husband who was not Catholic.  He wasn’t really raised in a particular faith tradition, but considered himself a Christian.  He had some of the common misconceptions of the faith, including the worship of Mary, indulgences, etc.  I was not well-equipped to answer his questions or defend my faith.  I believed because Mom and Dad said so, and I knew in my heart the faith was the church established by God, but I didn’t have any “educated knowledge” of my faith.  By the good grace of God, he started studying the faith and entered into the Church at Easter 1998.  That experience brought us closer together and has given me an insatiable appetite of learning about my faith.  My husband is very quick to point out that he did not convert because of me, but because he knew that the Catholic Church is the church Christ established.  He is offended when people even suggest that he would take religion/faith so lightly as to just convert because I was Catholic.

In August 1998 we were married.  I was starting my senior year in college and he was starting his last year of Law School.  In November 1999, I gave birth to our first son.  We made the decision that my husband would become a stay at home father, as I had the better job with better healthcare benefits (which was necessary with a newborn).   We had to deal with the comments of him wasting his law degree.  Thankfully, my husband had full-ride scholarships to both undergrad and Law school, so we did not have to deal with any debt ramifications of him staying home.  In April 2002, we welcomed our 2nd son.  By the grace of God, my husband was able to land a job working at home using his Law Degree.  This allowed us to get a house for our growing household and allowed our children to be at home with a parent.  GOD IS GREAT!  My husband is the most amazing man and I am in awe of his sacrifices.  In the secular world, he may not be considered a “success” but I feel that he has found extreme favor with God in his decision to put his children and family before any worldly success.  My kids are both now in Catholic School and loving it.  My oldest makes his first confession next month and will receive his first communion in May.

That is my story in a nutshell.  I actually decided to become a forum member for a prayer request, which I will post in the proper forum – I’ve lurked long enough to know I need to follow the posting rules :D

Thank you for “listening” to my story and I look forward to participating.  Please look at the “Prayer Request” forum for my request.

In Christ,

Lisa
