Well, I tuned into Journey Home, on EWTN, earlier tonight and what, to my wondering eyes should appear but MARCUS GRODI HAS A BEARD!!! WHOA!!!  Guess this must be the new "hip" Marcus Grodi!   Oh well! Actually, it looks kind of good on him, I guess!  Now, all he needs to do is to shave the top of his head, leaving the fringe around the sides, dye the fringe salt and pepper gray and get some wire rim glasses and he will look just like ME! ;) On the other hand, if he looks like me he might get some complaints, ha, ha! :D  Wonder how long he'll keep his beard? Any guesses?

He said he was getting ready for the March for Life.  But why does that require a beard?  To keep his chin warm?  We're kidding Marcus, if you're reading this!  The program was good tonight.  Dr. Hall did an excellent job, relating those "phases" we all go through on our journey to the Catholic Church.

Glad you guys like it! No hidden philosophical agenda; just got tired of shaving. Oh and my wife likes it, so what else counts. ;-)

Hi Marcus,

Lookin' rather "grandfatherly" with all that grey! That's rapidly becoming my problem, as well. I have to get that Grecian Formula stuff for my goatee, to please a certain someone.

just got tired of shaving. Oh and my wife likes it, so what else counts.

Those were always my two reasons, too! Women motivate us to do a lot of things, don't they? :) Say hi to the "better half" for me!

Well, I don't go around looking at guys, however, if I was "waterboarded", I MIGHT admit that you guys are "handsome rascals"!  Ha, ha!  Maybe you all can get some roles in some action adventure movies and become the new Hollywood heart throbs for the ladies!  ;)

I am impressed that Marcus actually reads these forums! If you see this, I am an ol' Baptist who enjoys your program on EWTN.  Please keep up the good work!  Best wishes to you!

If you're the Catholic David Letterman, does that mean he's going to shave on your program?

And do we know for certain Letterman isn't Catholic?  (Not that I think we'd want to claim him...)

I've had a beard since back in the '70s. I asked my wife, a while back, if she wanted me to shave. She said "NO!" My daughter said "NO!", too! SIGH! Guess like your husband, apparently I look better with than without!  As for being Catholic and able to admit drinking, Baptists drink too, you just can't catch them at it, ha, ha! ;) Oh well, glad Marcus' wife and Dave's wife like them in beards too!

I think he looks rather distinguished and handsome.

My efforts at growing facial hair since a disastorous attempt around age 18 (it was awful, I have the photos to prove it) has been sideburns, an occasional soul patch, or some chin hair...  Incidentally, when I shave my head, I get more compliments on what little facial hair I have.  Is there a certain economy to that?

Lookin' good, brother Marcus!

My wife is strange in that she likes me with a beard (had it when we got married in 1984); also without a beard, but she doesn't like a goatee (which I've been partial to the last ten years or so). But she is tolerant of it anyway. I get tired of shaving my chin. It's a drag, and where I cut myself the most (I have sorta soft skin).

Mustache? Now that is much more non-optional. I believe I have shaved mine off once since 1979. The original inspiration was the Beatles in the Sgt. Pepper era (when you're ten years old you think a lot about such things). I just thought they looked so sharp and cool . . .

The look I was trying to get with my beard was like Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees: short, close to the skin. I love this picture of me (probably my favorite ever), from my honeymoon. I was 26 in those days!

I look like Barry Gibb? Nuh-uh, I don't think so!!! Thanks for the compliment tho! :dude: He's aged a bit since then, of course. I'm trying to hold on to the 40s for another 6 months.

Yep, you were five in their big heyday around 1978.

My husband once won some money for growing the ugliest beard on his boat.  He looks good with a mustache, but he cannot grow a beard at all.  He had, I think a month, on the boat and managed to grow a few scraggly hairs on his chin.  I saw the photos.  Yuck!  Glad I didn't have to see it in person!

But I think guys that can grow decent beards look good with them!!

Cindy, my sister is a big Padres fan!  They are my #2 team.  Go REDS!!!

Another one here with a beard, going for that Orson Welles look, I guess. My wife likes it, though I get tired of it sometimes and wonder what my face looks like these days behind the foliage.

you got me hacking and spittin  :P Tina, you make me lol

My mother would have loved you all although being tall was a pre-req for her. She looooved the BeeGees!  Can any of you sing like Barry?!!!!!!

Mine went from long haired (Tony Danza?!!) typical Italian youth from the 80's to short, clean shaved babe-face/head.  And he's got a very good crop at the top sooo if I ever wanted to relive my heyday....God forbid...I was a rebel....OMGosh.

Ok, enough damage here....I'm off

Barry Gibb looked exactly like what evangelical book publishers seemed to think that Jesus should have looked like in the 1970's and 1980's. At the time, I referred to this version of Christ as the rugged "Bounty Paper Towel Jesus," to differentiate him from artist Warner Sallman's "Sheep Under the Arm Jesus" and Raphael DeSoto's "Looks Like A Woman With A Beard Jesus." Of course, at the time, I was completely ignorant of the depiction of Christ in icons, which to me have an incredible amount of depth and truth in them.

Anyway, my wife is a Bee Gees fan, and sometimes just to annoy I'll refer to them as "those guys who look like Jesus, Tiny Tim, and the neighborhood plumber."

I know. I'm bad. Sorry.

You're making me jealous you guys. I think I've got more hair growing out of my nose and ears than what I have on my head or face. My wife would have a fit if I grew a beard. The only thing she likes is my thick mustache. And it's grey too!
Oh well, this old bald top and naked chin enjoys all you guys trying to look like grandpa's. :D:D:D

Oh...I was wondering. Are the beards a prerequisite for being a Catholic apologist? Enough of you sure are hairy faced.

Love it...and love the show.
