Hello, everyone! I am a college student who is part of a very loving Christian family that is Southern Baptist. Over the last few years I have gradually learning about the Catholic faith, at first out of curiousity, but eventually I realized that it raised questions I found hard to answer as a Baptist. The untenability of sola Scriptura, the lack of ultimate authority, and the testimony of the early Fathers have all been important revelations I have had in the last year or so.

I am continuing to investigate and have not taken any steps to begin joining the Church yet, but I am more and more feeling myself led in that direction. I am at the point now where I recognize a reasonable argument can be made for the Catholic position on almost every issue, but at this point everything is in a sense theoretical and academic for me. I have never had any friends or family who are practicing Catholics, so right now everything is "in my head", so to speak. I believe the factor that will really decide whether I should believe the Catholic faith or not is when I see it lived out. Which is part of the reason why I'm here. I'm hoping to be able to meet and discuss with real-life Catholics. So anyway, here I am, and I look forward to what I hope will be productive discussions!

Welcome Steven. You'll find a warm welcome on this forum. I too am on the journey to Rome. It's taken me a little longer, probably due to all the hang ups I've had on Catholicism in the past. I've learned I've had to drop all my preconceived notions and ideas about what I've thought the Catholics believed. Trying to start with a clean slate without allowing my prejudices to interfere is not easy. Plus the cost of crossing the Tiber can be enormous.
But thanks to some of the wonderful people here, I've learned to love the Roman Church. The books by David Armstrong, one of the moderators, are marvelous works. He's change my mind on a number of issues. And of course, there's Marcus and the Journey Home that is phenomenal.
Keep an open mind and allow God and His Church to form you. I know that is happening to me.
God bless..and again, welcome
Rich

Welcome Steven, we're glad to have you here and I hope that you will find this community very beneficial in your journey.

I too am a college student and I am recent convert to the faith, joining the Church this past Easter.  Keep searching for the Truth and Christ will lead you to himself.

Welcome, Steven, we're glad to have you here with us.  We have several college students among us who are or have been recently in the same position as you, along with us "old fogies" who are cradle Catholics, and everything in between.  We'll do our best to assist you on your faith journey, wherever it may lead you.

Thanks so much, everybody! I look forward to getting involved, but right now I'm going to get some sleep!

Beth, I'm glad to know that there's another LOTR fan here!

Welcome Steven!!!

And ... there is at least one on the other side of that classroom desk (aka a professor) who found the truth in the Catholic Church.  Welcome to the journey (and to the 'peace that passes understanding' at the end).

Welcome, Steven!  Seems to me that the Holy Spirit has whispered to you, and led you to where He wants you to be right now.  An open mind and open heart will open doors.  May God bless you abundantly in your journey!!

Steven, welcome to the Forum from another Kentuckian. My roots were very deep in the Southern Baptist faith, and I am grateful for all God gave me through those decades. However, the Holy Spirit called me into the Catholic Church. I try very hard to obey when He calls.

It's great to have you here.

Becky
