Hi everyone

My name is Stefanie-anne and I've just recently decided to convert. I was born and raised Pentecostal and my family are extreamly anti-catholic.

I come from an italian background, I'm 23 years old and attending St. Lawrence College (paralegal program).

I began attending mass with a friend and found such peace and joy there. I try to pray my rosary twice a day, I find such a peace in praying the rosary. I LOVE being in church and have now taken out a book all on the Catholic teachings.

I've made the decision to attend RCIA. When my family found out that I was merely interested in the Catholic Church they were very upset and my father told me that I was being rebelious. I haven't told them yet that I'm going to be taking the RCIA classes becasue I'm afraid that will cause a big fight in the family.

Because it's not just my immediate family it's also my extended family that are Pentecostal so there will be a HUGE problem in me converting. I've been praying and struggling with honoring my mother and father and yet not denying the tuggings of the Holy Spirit.

I don't want to anger my parents but I do want to please God. It's not an easy road that i'm on right now but i have faith in God that I will get through it.

I'm waiting to get the book "Rome sweet Home" so hopefully that'll be in soon.

Thanks everyone sorry for the long post! I need all the help and encouragment i can get right nwo.

Stefanie-anne

Trust me, Stefanie, your post was not long!  We welcome you to the forum and the Catholic faith, and we'll do our best to answer your questions and support your decision in any way we can.  Several of our members are in college and have made the same difficult decision as you, and we're all here to support each other.

Welcome home.

"Ditto" to Rick's comments. You can share your struggles here, Stefanie, and receive encouragement, some solid practical advice from others going through similar things, and prayer, too. This is the place for you to be! Don't get discouraged by naysayers. You have to follow God to where He is leading you. The journey may be difficult but the "view" is wonderful when you get there!

Hello and welcome to the forums!

I hope you find this a helpful place for any questions you might have and I definitely hope you enjoy the fellowship.

On another note, I am re-starting a group called Quo Vadis/Where are you going which is dedicated to helping teens and young adults on their journey into the Catholic Church.  We're developing a website, will have weekly chats and forum discussions (we are going to have a section of this forum dedicated to Quo Vadis), we are creating monthly e-newsletters, Quo Vadis is also a group on Facebook and like it's mother network, The Coming Home Network, Quo Vadis will give members one on one support by pairing Catholics with those on the journey to the Catholic Church.  If this is something you might be interested in let me know and I'll add you to our database.  You can e-mail me at maryp@chnetwork.org, message me on the forums or call me at 1-800-664-5110.

One last thing, for the rest of you besides Stefanie-anne who are reading this-if you or someone you know might benefit from Quo Vadis please drop me a line and I'll be in touch!

Again, welcome Stefanie-anne!

God bless!

Hello, Stefanie. Welcome to the CHNI Forum.

Hang your coat right over there and pull up a chair. ;)
If you're a very sweet girl, Annie might share her popcorn.
I've been known to share my box of Kleenex and my Milkduds. :)

You're at home here with us. The folks here will help you get to where the Holy Spirit is leading you.
Before you know it, you will be helping somebody else.

Becky
