I was tickled that my email was read and it did prompt some lively discussion!  I love Rob (the Donut Man) and Marcus.  They make a great team.  Both had very different replies and it was thought provoking.  I tried to email Rob with the response I got from my friend, who I asked some questions of, regarding her statement. I don't have it at my fingertips at this moment and don't want to misquote her, but Rob and Marcus were both right.  I was thinking much more along the lines of Marcus and my hubby connected with Rob's assessment, so that's interesting, too!  I'll find it and post it here, and see what you all think.  I have written a reply to her reply, but didn't send it yet. I sent it to my friend, Fr. Felix, as he's sort of become my spiritual director regarding this 'debate.'  I love my friend, but I can't let her say things about the CC that simply aren't true, and not answer her.  I mean, I can't stop her from saying them, but I can do something within my circle of influence to hopefully slow down the spread of myths, right?  I don't want to "lose her" in this discussion, so that is why I am being cautious and seeking Father's help and other's first.  I know "too many cooks" can spoil the stew, but in this case, I think it's more like "the more the merrier!"  Let's get to slinging hash and cookin' up a gumbo! Rich Caj?

:D

Here's her statement.  "No one denomination has all the Truth; even if one started out with it, our human-ness has made some serious un-Truth adjustments."

I asked her if she thought truth was 'relative' by this statement, and she said, "No.  Truth is connected to Jesus and the bible." and went on about the Crusades and Inquisition blah blah blah the skewed history that most bemoan.  Of course, sins of the people don't change or alter truth. Peter denied Christ, Judas sold him for some quick cash, right from the 'get go' that's how Jesus Church started, yet I think He's able to complete his promise of Matt. 16 no matter how we sinners mess up.  Right?  Truth surely can't be dependent on how I live it out, or if there were 'bad popes' or horrible things that occurred, or we're all screwed.  She just doesn't see the "Church" as a body, a living organism, but this nebulous, spiritual fuzzy thing that contains all believers scrambling about trying to get as much truth as possible, and hopefully get to heaven where it'll be straightened out among all of us cretans.  Happily, I know Jesus did build a Church to lead, teach and guide us and keep us safe. He didn't leave us orphans.  I know it's grace that opens people to 'hear truth' but it's frustrating when they don't even try to listen.  Why didn't I hear Rich years ago when he told me about Catholicism and yet, 26 years later, after one book, I was sold!?? It all made complete sense to me, but it took me that long!?  There but for the grace of God......

Rick,

That tale brought back wonderful memories. I remember hearing that quite a few years ago and had forgotten all about it.  It just shows what people can do when they work together to get a job done. :)

Thanks for the reminder.

In Jesus' Love,

Darlene

That is a great old story.  I only heard it on Little House on the Prairie, when "Ma" told it to the girls, though, not anywhere else.
