You've probably noticed this, but Fellowship Hall is absolutely enormous, with over 652 topics and about 7,353 actual posts. This is terrific. But, it has created difficulties because of its size. There are many, many very good questions asked in this Hall, but they are lost amongst the other 'just friendly banter' topics. Because of this, I'm trying to consolidate this Hall, so that it is smaller and more private for our members. My goal is so that you can have fun, but it will also be smaller. There are just so many really helpful and thoughtful posts, lost in all these topics, and I want Protestants or Catholics searching with specific questions to find these gems.
So, I am trying to do a little organization and it involves a few decisions. I try to move many of your posts to other sections, if they apply. This way people who search under particular topics, know exactly where to go, and read the threads that apply to their questions.
I am also locking some threads. Please do not take this as a criticism. When I lock a thread, it is usually because I find that it repeats in another topic in the Fellowship Hall itself. I don't want to delete them because the answers are terrific, even though they answer the same question. However, I will also lock a current thread because I notice that the last several posts [five in a row] of the actual thread, do NOT address the original question. I do this to get your attention that you are not helping the person with their question. If the author of the post then e-mails me requesting that I unlock it because they still want the question to be answered, then I will unlock it and people can post on it again. I will not do this to threads that are just fun banter, because these are obviously for fun. But in this way, I can hear directly from the author of the thread, to make sure that their questions has been appropriately answered on the board.
You can really help each other stay on topic in this respect. Sometimes it takes a gentle reminder to each other that it is really important to try to discuss the original question. I'm not going to post a reminder at the end of each thread, if you are digressing from the original post. I'm leaving that up to your responsbility to stay on topic.
I'm not saying that you can't digress! Fun banter is great! I just encourage you to start a new thread of banter [the first post in the thread sets to the tone], if you want to do this. I have noticed this happening in several of the active threads in the Fellowship Hall. Usually the last post of the entire thread does not actually answer the orginal post. This concerns me when the original post is a very questioning post, that requires very serious and thoughtful answers about the Church's teachings. I personally find this somewhat frustrating. When I'm interested in the original thread, because I have questions about it too, I get a little lost in all the posts around it that don't really answer the original question. In the end I'm left with the original question still stuck in my head, unanswered. So it is helpful for myself and those searching for the truth, if you stick to the original post, and try to answer that as closely as you can within that thread.
Lastly, if I don't move or lock, I will delete. I try to avoid this from happening. If I delete, it means that it violates the board's mission [which rarely happens because you are a great group of people] or it is an old post, that people never read anymore, or post to. I'm trying to delete posts that are more than 3-5 months old, or leave them there but lock them.
In making these decisions to move, lock or delete, I will try to be sensitive to the topics that are currently active and leave those alone. If you have a question about a thread that I have clumsily damaged with my laser beam, please feel free to beat me over the head with a stick and let me know. I don't want to hurt anyone, and therefore help from you and the other mods are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please let me know.
You are probably screaming "Stop!!!" and poking your eyeballs with pencils by now, but I promise this will be my last post. I just want to explain what I've been doing with the Fellowship Hall.
Hope you are having a happy and holy Lent!
Laura

Laura, thanks for keeping this place in order. It's hard for me to figure out sometimes under which subject my threads should start, so I appreciate that you guys put them where I should've.
Also, sorry if I overdo it on the humorous responses. It's just...me. My kids have the same problem. Oh, the stories I could tell!
