It's been extremely helpful to me. I've learned a whole lot about the Catholic Church through the topics and comments posted, and I've enjoyed getting to fellowship (Protestantese) with Christians of different backgrounds. Love it here! Can I stick around?

This forum has been about so much more than information, for me. It isn't that information is unimportant, not at all. In fact, I am extremely particular about sources of information. Getting accurate information and thorough explanations was definitely a big part of why I continued to visit the forum during the years and months leading up to my confirmation and beyond.

Here's the thing. I could find information in so many places. What made the CHNI forum special was that Rick and David (and now Dave) loved us. They really did. It was obvious that they loved each person posting on the forum. Sometimes when traffic is light on this forum, I check around other places. Sorry, but they leave me cold, compared to what I have enjoyed here. Those gentlemen have become spiritual fathers for me (or at least spiritual big brothers, since I'm no spring chicken). I respect and trust them. In private messages, if they offer me counsel on something, I take it very seriously for I know they care deeply about my spiritual development.

They, in their dealings with the problems and woundedness presented by various posters, have taught me how to show Catholic charity toward others. The other members have become brothers and sisters, some closer than others, of course. We have strengthened each other for the difficult, lonely journey in a way that must please the Lord very much.

Hi all,

When I first joined this forum, I thought "becoming Catholic' would cause me to go to hell and my children, too.  So gently, those in the know, guided me through those first many toruous months of trying to believe the unbelievable.

They are still doing that for newcomers, all the time.

And now, after helping me learn the faith, they are helping me learn how to live my life as if I do have the faith.

I'm so grateful!

Love, Laura

This forum means a great deal to me. Last year when I was floundering and knew that I could no longer remain Anglican it was from  the board that I learned that I could become Catholic and that there was a process to  follow. The support that I recieved here and the afirmations gave me the strength to face down the angrly Unitarians/atheists on one side and the Southern Baptists on the other side.

You should have had a category something along the lines of:

"I'm not sure I would have become Catholic without this forum."

There was a time I had NO ONE to ask.   Books go one way, though they're helpful.  I needed answers to questions and this forum was and is a perfect place to ask them.

Jill

AMEN Jill, While I have friends that are Catholic that range from in their 80's old school,my age devout and continously learning about our faith vias EWTN and books etc right on through to th Cafeteria Catholic. Many of the questions that I needed to ask I felt silly asking my friends- also how do you tell friends that your extended family is hell bent on saving you from the mistake of joining the Catholic church-their faith? Even as I was asking  and venting about my family on the boards here at the back of my mind was how insulting to the faith that I even have these experiences to tell about. Afterall we aren't talking some kool aid cult here. Since the Mods on this board have broad shoulders and don't seem to let our ignorant protestant comments and fears bother them it is a safe way to let us explore the fait.

I believe this Board (forum) to be very helpful and informative, most particularly for people whose interest in the Catholic Church has been sparked.  At the same time, it can be destructive, depending on the way in which beliefs are shared .... either in the love of Christ or judgmentally.  It is a cautious road we must trod when dealing with "seekers."

In the beginning of my journey into the Catholic faith, this board was very informative and helpful though I often disagreed with much that I read with the moderators and others.  I was a Protestant Charismatic and could not understand all the "rituals" of the Catholic Church.  It has been over three years ago that I posted very negative remarks arguing with many of the Catholics here.  Rick...I know you remember this.  Lol. I had been involved with many Protestant churches, the last being The Church of Christ.  This one was the big eye opener to me.  I cannot go back into past history because this post would be too long.  Bottom line, 3 years ago I finished up with the RCIA program.  It was here that I learned the Catholic Church does indeed follow the bible and it's teachings but also goes back into history and tradition.  History and tradition had never had much of a place in my heart previously being a Protestant.  I use to come here to argue with folks.  Some of you may remember.  I am happy today  my husband and I worship together at our local Catholic Church.  There is still so much to learn but am at peace being a Catholic.

In February 2005 I sent an SOS out into the unknown cyberworld of the Coming Home Network . I needed help in dealing with well meaning protestant friends about Scripture and the Catholic Faith. I was feeling overwhelmed and alone. Frustrated and desperate. Someone heard my plea.

It was Robert Rodgers and the words he spoke I will never forget:  "As was Simon to Christ, so let each of us be the hands and feet of Christ our Lord as we walk in this world."

He welcomed me with warmth and kindness. He was one man, a servant he called himself and yet, he was a lifeline for me. Through his short email with a recommendation for a book, Catholic Doctrine in Scripture by Greg Otis, and a quote from St. Peter Canisius, I have come almost full circle.

I have learned more things about my Faith than I thought I could ever know. The wealth of knowledge given by Rick, David and Dave (and Henry & Steve and Marshall and Becky and I can go on and on,,,) cannot truely be measured. How could it. Some people just peruse the site but do not comment. How are we to know how the posting have affected their life's Spiritual journey? Now hows that for a Mighty God!!!!!!

Oh yes, this board is VERY HELPFUL.
