"Faith"-a rock band from Sweeden, I lost a CD I have of theirs, not the case, just the CD, I misplace stuff like this all the time. I looked everywhere, other cases, sleeves, car, CD players....to no avail. I was going through some stuff on my desk yesterday and there it was, and I had looked there several times before, much of the time what we're looking for is right in front of our face, and we miss it! I learned a few things through this; to find "faith", one must continue to seek and knock, I had a big smile on my face when I found it, I wonder how big the Father smiles when He finds one of us!  :D

I believe it was pop singer George Michael (not who you'd call a great example of Christianity,  I suppose...:eyeroll:) who once sang...

"...well I gotta have FAITH

I gotta have faiiiith!

Well, I gotta have faith, faith, faith!

I gotta have FAITH!!!" or something like that, ha, ha!

While not agreeing with the rest of the song, I did like the chorus! ;)

:( Kim, I am sorry, I did not mean to offend you.  I apologize if I did. I have not meant to make fun of anyone here and assure you that I am NOT making fun of the Catholic Faith which I greatly respect as well as greatly respect Roman Catholics.  If I laugh, I laugh WITH you all, NEVER "at you"!  I do have a sense of humor, however, it is a KIND sense of humor, NEVER hurtful or, at least, NEVER INTENDED to be hurtful.  I take the Roman Catholic Church and it's beliefs VERY seriously and, again regard them VERY RESPECTFULLY. I do believe that Jesus did and does have a sense of humor -like mine, a gentle sense of humor.   I think that He does allow us to "lighten up" and to enjoy humor not expecting us to always be humorless although, certainly, there is a time and place for seriousness.  Also, I was not making fun of Mark.  I was just making a remark in what I took to be the spirit of his remark.  And, I DO "gotta have faith", my Christian faith is at the core of me, part of all I say and do.  There was a time when, due to humorless, hurtfull acts of fellow church members, I did struggle with faith, however, Jesus found me and shepherded me back into the faith.  Had you known me back around 1970 and then look at me know, you would be totally amazed that this guy is a Christian and participating on a Catholic web page no less.

Also, a couple of years ago now, something hurtful did happen to me at the Baptist church of which I am now only a nominal member.  I have been investigating other denominations trying to determine if I should move to another spiritual home.  However, while I still respect the Roman Catholic Church and its members, what you just said makes me painfully aware that while I regard the Roman Catholic Church as a legitimate church of our Lord Jesus Christ, it is not the home I am seeking.  Frankly, at this point, I am tempted to resign my Baptist church membership and just be a Christian without a church.  I am tired of denominational politics and the like, bone tired of them.  Anyway, all the above makes me realize that I really have no business here.  With prayers for God's blessings upon you all, I am leaving CHNI Forums and wish you all well.  Again, I am sorry that I offended you. It was not intentional.  :(

Kim, I am sorry that I misunderstood you.  Thank you for your kindness. I am just dealing with some "church issues" (on top of some health issues) and I have just felt sort of depressed and touchy about them in various ways. By way of explanation, although I have ALWAYS, for as long as I can remember at least, greatly respected and admired the Roman Catholic Church and my Catholic brothers and sisters, I had been raised a member of a Christian Church in my native Bristol, Tennessee (my mother and maternal grandmother, with whom I was always close) attended it, however my Dad never cared for it (if you have ever seen "The Waltons" on TV, Dad was a lot like John Walton, the father of John-Boy although I am NOT like John-Boy :eyeroll:).  Dad became a Presbyterian before he died (the church of his mother and two sisters with whom he was close).  Anyway, some things happened to me in that church - not "serious things" but enough to be hurtful to me and send me into a sort of "spiritual tail spin" for a while.  When I came back to faith, I joined an Episcopal Church for a while, then, when my wife and I got together, I joined her Baptist Church since she preferred to be a Baptist.  Anyway, when we came to the Richmond, VA area, in 1979, we joined historic old First Baptist Church here. Back  a couple of years ago, the Pastor, whom I had respected and trusted, kicked me off a committee because I had dared to ask that the church maintain a balance between the Southern Baptists (conservatives) and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (liberals - they use the word "cooperative" in their name but they are really NOT very cooperative, in my opinion).  By the way, Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists actually have a LOT more in common than a lot of people think.  Anyway, frankly, I was deeply hurt by all that, as was my wife, and I have just sort of been in a sort of "denominational limbo" sort of feeling since then.  I still have a very strong faith in God and in Jesus Christ, His Virgin born, crucified, risen, living Son as my Lord and Savior.  I am just still struggling with denomination.  Somehow my misunderstanding of what you said brought all those feelings to the front of my mind and I was just sort of "in a mental place I should not have been" at that moment. I'm sorry, maybe I need an exorcist or at least lots and lots of chocolate, ha, ha!  Please forgive me, please pray for me. Please also pray for Central Christian Church of Bristol, Tennessee and First Baptist Church of Richmond, VA that they will NOT do things to hurt people and will somehow worship and serve God in the future. Thank you for your kindness.  It helps me to deal with all this out in the open.  It's hard to type for the tears so I'll shut up for a while. May God bless you.  Maybe I'll still be around.

Marshall, I wondered if something else was going on because you sounded so serious, unlike your usual jovial self. :waving:I have times like that, too, where I am extra sensitive and misunderstand other's intents and meanings due to other things bothering me.

Please don't leave the board. :( You add so much to this place. I know I'd miss ya! :crying:

Here, have another one:

:chocolate:

Sometimes it's a 2 chocolate bar kinda day. :needhug:

Trust us, Marshall.  We don't expect you to always have good judgment.  You are, after all, a Tennessee Vols fan, which proves your perspective on life is skewed.  :roflol:

Marshall you remind me of the quote from someone that is " as soon as one stops fighting the Catholic church they get pulled toward it" I expect that since you aren't fighting it-  one of these days we will be hauling you out of the Tiber on the other side!!! Don't forget that while you are floating on the river inyour Baptist barge that people fall off of boats all the time- SPLASH:D:D

Dear Marshall,

For what it's worth I love to read your posts. :) Please don't leave.

I know how easy it is to get hurt when someone accidentally touches a sore spot! I have been both the giver and the receiver as far as that goes. I've struggled with depression & anxiety for years....I need all my friends on this board and I will be needing you even more in the near future.

Our family will soon be heading east to find greener pastures (don't know exactly where yet) and I'm really scared. I will miss my parish, my pastor and our dear friends (We have lived in the Dallas area for 19 years). I will need all of you guys and your prayers.

Love,

Lisa

Awwwww, thanks Cajun dude! :hi: I like hot cocoa! And I'll give a toast to you and the great people of this board for helping me so much.

Hey, I thought of you while I was eating some crawfish etouffee a couple of weeks ago at my folks' house. :yum: We grabbed some boiled crawfish as we left my MIL's on the way to Texas. Glad we did, as there wasn't any when we came back through on the way home! :crying2:

I know that this road I'm on is a pretty bumpy one for me, but I feel like I got a few miles further down the road today and yesterday. Can't really explain it. Just some settling in the head, I guess. :dude:
