Stop the presses!!  Hold the Phone!!  Big News!!

My husband has for some unexplainable reason agreed to a visit to EWTN next month.  We are going to Birmingham, Al.  yeah!!:roflmho:

My question is, has anyone here been there to visit, and what good tips do you have?  I hope this will be the ultimate opportunity to explain what catholicism really is, and I ask you all to pray that he will have a conversion of heart, if not to catholicism then to a sincere and active protestant faith.
I can't wait, to me this is as big as going to Rome!  Well, almost as big.

Marsha, that is great news!  I pray you have a wonderful trip.

Are you going with the St. Mary Magdalen group or on your own?

On our own, probably for two nights.  I didn't even know about St. Mary Magdalene's going.  It's going to be very interesting, either a good fun trip or the longest two days I've ever had!

Marsha, I share your joy and will be praying for much grace to fall on your husband's heart.

That is awesome!

Yeah, wear comfortable shoes :P makes it a lot more enjoyable :roflmho:Allow the Holy Spirit and Blessed Mother to do the work.  Just relax! Take a sweater, because the studio is cool.

An interesting thing happens, I assume you are going to/stopping by Hanceville too.  So many Protestant bus tours come through, they keep coming back.  The local Protestants come, and come back.  Why?  They say it is so beautiful and there is peace there, they can't understand. :praying:

I think they love the Jesus hugs and can't figure out why they are getting them:hugging: There must be many seeds planted then.  I wonder what it is like when they realize he is there in the Eucharist.

If you have the opportunity, get Raymond Auroa's book on Mother Angelica's life, on cd.  It will give him an awesome picture of the Holy Spirit working to build what he will be witnissing.  A friend and I were listing to it one day, and she said 'Mother sure does sound young' and I cracked up laughing:roflol:. (Now you have to remember our kids grew up around there)  I told her, 'that's not Mother, that's Raymond.'  He reads the book by imitating their voices and really does a great job.

Very cool indeed.  Be sure and make it to the monastery in Hanceville.  While I'm a protestant, I try to stop by there at least once a year.   Don't miss the Grotto Chapel underneath the Church.

Welcome to Alabama!

Marsha,

By all means, if you are able to be there for the Monday night broadcast of Marcus' show, the Journey Home, then try to do so.  I can't think of a better invitation to the Catholic Church for someone not in full communion.

Peace to all!

Is that the Ave Maria Grotto on the map?  My map shows Hanceville but not the Shrine.  But it does have an Ave Maria Grotto, which we have planned to visit.  Also, is the Golden Rule Barbeque that Fr. Pacwa talks about a good place to eat?  Our plans aren't firm yet but we are thinking of going on a Thursday afternoon and leaving on Saturday to come home.  It suits our schedule better that way, although I had originally wanted to be there this coming Mond. night to hear Andrew McNutt.  Can't have everything :eyeroll:

Rod,

One of the members at St George was Buddhist monk for many years, I think he was raised Southen Baptist, and his wife was also Buddhist.  If you get a chance stop in and visit with us at St. George also.

The Ave Maria Grotto is kind of, but not, across I65 at the Benedictine Monastery in Cullman.  A really neat place to visit, you will pass right by it.  Ahh, leaving on Sat., if you want to leave about 6:30 in the evening, you can join us for Vespers-Liturgy at St. George in Birmingham at 5pm and say :waving:

Well the Divine Liturgy on Sunday is at 10:30am, with Orthros starting at 9:15, if you stay over till  then.

I grew up in the Lancaster, Rock Hill area where my family is from.  My maiden name was Walters.  I went to high school in Great Falls, I was one of those student school bus drivers.  So your part of the country was my stomping grounds for many years.

Hey,

Make sure you call and get tickets. They like to know how many people will be there so they can set up enough chairs, and who is coming.

Thanks Rose, we might be there for a Thurs. show of Life on the Rock, but there isn't a live show on Fri.  The website says we can take a tour during the day if a group has already been formed.  There has to be a minimum number of people.

My son had a roommate at school from Rock Hill.  He is an associate pastor at a small evangelical church somewhere around there.  It's not far from here.  Small world!

As the time of our trip approaches, my dh is getting cold feet!  Now he wants me to go to the 7:00 am mass without him, and that's one of the things I really wanted him to see.  He is only going so I won't have to drive down there by myself and I appreciate him willing to do that, so I'm not making a fuss.  But he's going to miss out on a lot of blessings if he doesn't make the most of his time there.  Everyone pray he will change his mind and attend everything possible with me.  Thanks.

There is a Mass at 12 noon that is not televised.  He may enjoy that a bit more.

Hence my dilema.  Do I plan according to my pilgrimage, probably of my lifetime, or his casual "tourist" trip but could plant some important seeds.  I have planned to attend 7:00 am mass at the shrine, and 8:20 rosary.  Then have free time to do what we want until 2:45 at the EWTN studio for the tour.  I have offered to have a look at the Talladega racetrack, which I would actually enjoy seeing, and even a visit to the BassPro Shop, which I love to look around in.  It's going to be an interesting trip,  I'll give a good report! ;)

Love will find a way, Marsha.

And a full report will be in order on your return. We will not let you get by with anything less.

Well there is a place you are most likely not aware of.  If you are motorcycle enthusiasts you will love Barbers, they have an awesome museum, as does Talledega for the Corvettes.  However, Barbers is a bit more, well it is just a lot!  Closer than Talledega also :D

Then if you like to camp, we have a wonderful state park close by.

Seriously, this trip sounds like a real blessing. Maybe I can go someday.

don't worry about the cold feet thing. go with the flow, you might find yourself changing plans at the last minute "for some unknown reason.";)

I love the BassPro Shop!!  I don't use anything in there but I'm fascinated with all the stuff.  It's just amazing how many gadgets there are for fishing and hunting and boating.  I love hardware stores too!  Go figure :eyeroll: !
