I'm having trouble following his thinking as I'm listening.  He's VERY knowledgeable as displayed by the way he speaks.  I need to read it.  Will his talks be printed out somewhere?

Most likely they will be in full on EWTN.  It may take a few days but keep watch for them.

One thing that struck me during the answer to the bishops questions was his comment on vocations.  It is so true - and I know many young men - who wanted to be preist, but their families discouraged them.  However, though many of the seminaries where the bishops are holding to 'truth' the seminaries are overflowing, others are empty.  While God refills these seminaries - the Lord Jesus Christ is bringing into the Catholic Church many loved clergy who are totally sold out to Christ and his Church to teach these young people, may JPII youth.  And then, to catechise the parents and help them to understand God's plan for them and their childern.  Then for those who are brought into the priesthood as priests from other places to fill in and teach.  Too, all of you who are coming in as layity - without any theological training - but the love of our God, know you are called, loved, and annointed for the task at hand.

WOW how great is our God!

WOW - THANK YOU TO EACH ONE OF YOU THAT ARE SEEKING OUT THE TRUTH THAT GOD IS REVEALING TO YOU IN HIS MAJESTY OF THE LOVE OF HIS SACREMENTAL CHURCH AND ANSWERING HIS CALL!

Folks, don't ever let anyone tell you that God is our Provider! :bowing:

I was listening to Fr. Corapi the other day as he spoke about how satan's wisest tactic to destroy the Church is to destroy the priesthood.  If he succeeds in that, without priests, there is no Eucharist, and if there is no Eucharist, there is no Life in the Church.

So, my next thought was that a young man might contemplate a vocation in the Church similarly to the way young men and women contemplate the military.  Priests will, in a certain sense, be the saviors of the Church (small 's') and keep it alive in the same way that our military protects our country and maintains its life.

Both priests and soldiers are willing to lay down their lives for what they believe in.  The Church is looking for a few good men - sound familiar?

Why are there so many willing to lay down their lives in war, but seemingly so few willing to sacrifice a 'normal' life in order to save the Life of the Church?

Spiritdaily had a link to it, but not on EWTN yet...

This is the one at the White House
Full Text: Pope Benedict XVI's White House Speech WASHINGTON (CBS) ― In the first papal visit to the White House in 29 years, Pope Benedict XVI greeted President Bush and nearly 10,000 others in attendance with warm prayers of hope and prosperity. Here is the entire text of the pontiff's speech:

Mr. President,

Thank you for your gracious words of welcome on behalf of the people of the United States of America. I deeply appreciate your invitation to visit this great country. My visit coincides with an important moment in the life of the Catholic community in America: the celebration of the two-hundredth anniversary of the elevation of the country's first Diocese – Baltimore – to a metropolitan Archdiocese, and the establishment of the Sees of New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Louisville. Yet I am happy to be here as a guest of all Americans. I come as a friend, a preacher of the Gospel and one with great respect for this vast pluralistic society. America's Catholics have made, and continue to make, an excellent contribution to the life of their country. As I begin my visit, I trust that my presence will be a source of renewal and hope for the Church in the United States, and strengthen the resolve of Catholics to contribute ever more responsibly to the life of this nation, of which they are proud to be citizens. ...

Jill, I know of several young men who so desired to enter the priesthood, but their parents made it basically impossible.  One young man's father went so far as to remove his computer, his Bibles, icons, crucifixes, anything in his room that would remind him of Christ.  This young man has now graduated from college, is totally frustrated because he doesn't seem to be able to meet a nice girl, and can't find a job in his field, he is just totally confused.  His father expects him to take care of them when they retire.  His parents don't seem to understand that he can still take care of them when they retire if he is a priest.  At what point does he say, sorry father, but...

I remember a priest telling the story of his journey to the priesthood.  He wanted to be a lawyer, his mom wanted him to be a priest.  The first time he went to take the LSAT(not certain that is what it was called back then), he got sick, the second time he got pneumonia, the third time he was hit by a car.  He gave up and entered the seminary.

God calls, it is up to man to answer, and he is always calling but you know the old saying - the grass seems greener on the other side.

Also, it well depends on the faith and prayers of the people.   Sadly, we older Catholics, are in many ways just as responcible for the vocation crisis as those young men who are not willing to answer God's call.  That was part of the reason for the crisis we just went through in the Church for we as layity were not praying enough for our priests.  Then too, as the pope said in one of his talks, these young people really do not know how to pray and hear the call they are being given, that is our fault  too, very poor catchesis on our part. So, how much are we praying for their priest?  How much are we praying for vocations?  How much do we really want Jesus?  How willing are we to take up the cross of Christ and lay down our lives and encourage our sons to lay down theirs?

Another thing that happens, is God allows wake up calls.  He is perging his Church and asking how important am I to you as Church?  I believe that is a small/large part of what we are seeing today.

An article on late vocations.  I know two that are totally awesome priest - one was a Southern Baptist Minister, the other a college professer with his doctorate in Socioligy.  Both are nothing short of amazing in their faith and teaching majesterium of the Church. http://www.newsday.com/news/local/ny-lipries0416,0,6024589.story

Generally you can read the exact text of any major Papal speech at the Vatican web site ( http://www.vatican.va ), at Zenit ( http://www.zenit.org ), or at the Catholic News Agency ( http://www.catholicnewsagency.com ).  Other good sources include Catholic World News ( http://www.cwnews.com/ ), Catholic News Service ( http://www.catholicnews.com/ ), the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops ( http://www.usccb.org/news/ ), and the Vatican Information Service ( http://212.77.1.245/news_services/press/vis/englinde.php#start ).

I use MyCatholic ( http://www.mycatholic.com ) as my home page.  It allows the user to customize which Catholic and secular news sources you wish to see.  I have the most recent 5 headlines from each of the above sources, plus several others, available every time I load my browser.  It also has a Catholic Google search bar built in.

Hope it helps!

Jill, FYI, Zenit is publishing the text of every papal speech/address/homily.  I'm sure they are also available elsewhere, but this is one convenient, reliable source.
