| Since I am bugging my dear Catholic brothers and sisters with questions, I have another! During the time that Pope Benedict XVI was in the United States, EWTN and some of the secular networks were showing his Coat of Arms frequently. I got to wondering what the various symbols stand for on it. I note that there is a shell, a head of somebody and what looks like a bear on the Papal Coat of Arms shield. Anybody know what is symbolized by these images? Thanks for any information!

Thank you, David! It was fascinating to read the description of the symbols in Pope Benedict XVI's Coat of Arms! I enjoyed reading about their connection with his home area in Germany and that region and the symbols, such as the shell, respresenting such things as faith and pilgrimage! Awesome! Thank you again, learned David!

| David, I second that - really enjoyed reading about the Holy Father's coat of arms.
