| My kids' progress into the Catholic church was derailed by Easter, after that Msg went to Washington to give the opening invocation for either the seante or congress- I can't remember. THEN the father that is our spiritual advisor went on a holiday, then sister who deals with RCIA was sick ( she is like 110 years old), then Msg. went back to either Washinton or New York for the pope's visit. Now everyone is wrapped up in confirmation plans for our area- which will be held at the convention center since the kids from al our churches will be confirmed at the same service- the bishop has to travel 4 hours to get here. In the meantime at least my kids are getting more and more comfortable at the church.

| Actually my whining comes out of the fact that my kids left the Anglican Church on Christmas Eve but are not yet members of the Catholic Church and I know that the Anglican communion was not the real presence but since we didn't understand that at the time this is the longest that they have not taken communion since they were 8 years old and they both are feeling that lack in their lives. As adults I think that we can accept that kind of limbo a little easier than teenagers can.

Hey, Kim. I'm here, and I'm listening.
I think I understand what you are feeling.
It's a tall order not to worry about one's children.

Well, since this is the whinning BB, I am going to whine but about a different topic. Pentecost is at hand and that means no more RCIA until September. We have a great RCIA leader and a great team and while I am part of the team, I also learn a lot every year from my fellow team members. RCIA came early last Fall because of Easter coming early but it will be different this coming Fall. Soooooo, as a whine may I add a gentle hint, if you want to learn more about your Church, volunteer to help out on your local RCIA team. It is a GREAT ministry and every year is different so every year is interesting.

Why? Just because formal classes may have paused, that doesn't mean you couldn't be discussing the Sunday readings with them. After all, the readings of the Easter Season are from the Book of Acts, which describes the founding of the Church! Peter is prominent, Jesus is giving his final teachings in the Gospels, etc. Going to mass during the Easter season is progressing into the Catholic faith!

| Yeah Rick- most of our dinner conversations cover theology classes from school on weekdays, the readings and the homilies from their school Mass and the Sunday Mass as well as prayer. When i said progress was derailed I meant the formal process with the father, not their personal growth which actually has come so far. They have been going to Mass since after their dramatic Christmas Eve departure from their old church. In conversations with others, they identify themselves as Catholic.

Then consider this a break from the formal process, and after Pentecost, start asking your priest when they can be accepted into the Church. They will most likely have to wait to be confirmed next year or with their normal class, but that's OK. They can be accepted into the Church at any Sunday mass. The July Fourth weekend might be a good time for them to declare their "independent choice" to join the Catholic Church!

| Frankly confirmation is the least of my worries- I want them to be receiving which will re-root them. Confirmation will come in time

…no more RCIA until September
I’m sure that most are aware that the formation process does not end with the Initiation rites. I find that the period after initiation is crucial in the faith formation process and for Mystagogic Catecheses. The “Mysteries” really stat to open up after full initiation and participation in the sacraments can be realized.
We try to keep the “RCIA” group together for at least 6 months after initiation as a catechetical/discussion forum for those new to the faith. I have found that this is the period that produces questions from experiencing the fullness of the faith. It also serves as a contact group for those interested in coming home.

| Here I am still whining- when father talked to the sister in charge of RCIA she convinced him that it was best that my kids ( who she hasn't met much) follow the tradtional path of RCIA next year and wait till EV to join becuase "that is the way it is supposed to go for everyone who wants to join the church" so now everyone seems to be backing off letting my kids make thier proffesion of faith this summer. After I talked to sister myself she did say that she would talk to their Theology teachers from school, one of whom is a deacon, the other was in the seminary but left and works a lot with the RCIA program.
