Please pray for me again as I go to St. Meinrad again Friday through Sunday. The retreat I had signed up for was canceled but I kept the room and intend to go down and work on my faith journey account I have been working on sporadically for a few months. I promise to stay out of the library and bookstore and just eat, sleep, chant with "my monks," and write.

I hope everything goes okay and I'm armed with my JPII be not afraid t-shirt, my St. Benedict medal, and my green scapular.:praying:

This gets me away from distractions like the refrigerator.:embarrassed:

May God bless you on your trip. May your work be fruitful and bring others to the faith.

Annie, may God bless and protect you on your trip! By the way, ever thought of becoming a Nun? ;)

No, it might become a habit.:roflol::roflmho:

Thank you for your prayers. I'm all packed already! I am NOT bringing any books or my camera (other sources of distraction, besides my refrigerator:wantpie:). I already have about 45 minutes of St. Meinrad movie I have made on the other two trips.

The funny thing is, I wrote very little about my faith journey in my diary all that time so I am piecing things together by the timeline. I also have a list of the books I bought at the Cathedral bookstore and the order in which I got them which helps.

Annie, you'll be in my prayers. Have a wonderful weekend. My OCDS community will have a retreat there next April. I'm really looking forward to it.

Drive carefully.

Becky

You will love the guest house. it's brand new. all accessible. comfy sitting places. a gazebo on one side and a place with benches looking at the church on the other.:)

Each room has two twin beds, a nice writing desk, a dresser, a nice leather chair with footstool by the window. Private bath.

And the food is good too!;)

Thank you for your prayers.

It was GREAT. there were few people there, being Mother's Day weekend, except those for the graduation. The retreatants were: me, a man from Kentucky, and 6 Little Sisters of the Poor from various local places on their annual 8-day retreat. So the neighbors were quiet.

sunday morning there was a big storm and lightning hit the Hill just at the beginning of matins and lauds. There was a power failure during Mass but that didn't matter, we don't need no organ, not really, with a buncha monks chanting. the polyphony was beautiful.

I walked around a lot and ate sparingly (for me, :wantpie:). I lost a pound with all the walking!

I spent time in the cemetery. It was interesting. They brought Abbot Martin Marty's body back from St. Cloud in 2004 and he is interred in the Abbott I position. I found a book about him in the library. He was famous as a missionary to the Sioux, was made a bishop, and had a somewhat testy relationship with Sitting Bull.

I gave two impromptu tours of the archabbey church on Saturday afternoon. Hint that somebody might not be Catholic: they have their picture taken standing in front of the ornate tabernacle. A swallow or swift had come inside and was flying around so we left the door open. It eventually got out.

Edited: I forgot to note that we said blessings at vespers Friday for Fr. Patrick, who returns to Qatar in the Kentucky Air National Guard. The prayers were beautiful.

I drove home in the rain and thought how blessed I am to have a place to go like that. It is easy to get caught up in the history of the place.

Marshall, my brother said about my becoming a nun, after I told him I think there is an age cut-off of 27 like the military:
"After age 27, they become Republicans and learn about investing on line and that ruins the whole poverty angle."

Ha ha.

Annie, I'm so pleased you had a great weekend.

You've had such nice things to say about St. Meinrad that
I am really eager for our retreat there in April.

God bless,
Becky
