Hello to all of you out there. God Bless. A little about myself. Iam new to the sight, and am hopefully God willing, going to be able to converse with a Catholic borhter or sister that God sends to coverse with. I was raised a Prebyterian, but always considered myself simply Christian. I do not beleiver Jesus sees Catholic Orthodox or Protesatant. As such I have always loved my Catholic brothers and sisters, and never made a distinction growing up. Being from a French place, I assumed English were Protestants and French were Catholics -- and they spent a little more time on the Blessed Mother.
I am currently finishing an honurs degree in theology, which happens to be Catholic based. Not really conciously knowing what Presbyterians beleived,as in what exaclty is a Presbyterian in detail, I found myself when seeking understanding from my faith, usually falling on thew side of the Catholic understanding. I am in a romantic relationship with a devout Catholic, and have had dreams about being Catholic!! I worked as a militaryt Chaplain last summer and was tlking to a wonderful Catholic brother studying to be a priest. After out converstaion, I had a dream in which I was told " Wendy you deserve to be Catholic!" Whatever that means. I have just been accepted to do my Masters of Divinity to become a Presbyterian Minister, yet I have been praying for God's direction. Just becasue a door is open does not mena I have to go through it. I beleive it is God's will for me to be a Chaplian, and as I can be one as a Cathoilc or Protestant, I am praying about what Our Lord would have me do. In asking the Lord to reveal the truth to me I again had a dream, this time I was a Catholic and elated. I do have a lot of qestions though and feel drawn to the Catholic Church. I am currently reading John Gerard The autobiography of an Elizabethan, and feel as he would say " as one who has my mind made up, but now the will has to follow suit"!
If you can relate, feel the Lord has impressed on you to tlak with me an d especially if you are a preist who would not be bombarrded by the depp questions Ihavce, I would love to hear from you. God Bless,
Wendy

Welcome to our forum, Wendy. We're glad to have you with us. I am also from a French area (Louisiana) that is predominantly Catholic, except here the predominant language is English as well, but our heritage is French Catholic (that is, Acadian Catholic).
You will find many here able and willing to answer your questions. Alas, we do not have priests visit us very often (they tend to be quite busy). We look forward to the opportunity to walk your faith journey with you wherever it might lead.
Welcome to CHNI!

A warm welcome to you, Wendy. Please ask all the questions you like on the forum. That's exactly what we're here for. It's particularly my task (as "Network Apologist" and overall apologetics-type guy) to try to give decent answers to questions about Catholicism that come up, but helpers David and Rick do that, too, and indeed any member who feels they have something to add is encouraged to participate in our ongoing discussions. We're all here as a support group to encourage new and prospective Catholics and to share the message of the Catholic faith.
I think you'll like it. Hope you hang around and stay a while!

| Welcome to the forum Wendy. I dabbled in Presbyterianism for awhile. But after studying apologetics and the ante Nicean fathers (Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin, Ireneous,Cypian etc.) I came through God's grace to understand that the fulness of truth is in the Catholic Church. I recommend you go to Dave's website (listed above in Dave's post) and download some of the "low cost" apologetics. I particularly recommend you read "A Biblical Defense of Catholicism" and "The Church Fathers Were Catholic". Faith will lead to understanding. God bless you on your journey

| I was raised Presbyterian, ended up Catholic. I find it funny how when I removed the presumption that Presbyterianism is correct, it suddenly started seeming illogical.

Hi Wendy,
Welcome to the forum. I am currently an evangelical Methodist with strong Catholic leanings. I was born and raised Presbyterian. Stopped going to church when I was 14. Had a conversion experience at age 20. Was involved in predominately non-denominational and Baptist churches until we moved to our present location 13 years ago and got involved in the Methodist church here. I have been involved in preaching and teaching ministry most of my Christian life as a layman. I started heading towards the Methodist ministry but I have stopped for a couple of reasons. One is that the Lord has taken away my fear in my present vocation and I am actually enjoying the freedom of it. The other is that I want to leave the door open to the Catholic Church without the problem of wondering what I will do for a living if the Lord leads us that way.
Personally, I would probably already be there but I want to wait for my wife, who isn't feeling led that direction yet. I allowed the church to become my mistress early in our marriage to the neglect of my wife and children. I have been rectifying that situation for quite a few years now with the Lord's help. But to move in that direction without her would bring back the feelings and fears of abandonment from our past. I don't want to do that to her.
Back to your situation, it reminds me of the movie, The Sound of Music. Captain Von Trapp is still pursuing marriage with the Baroness Von Schrader while he is really in love with Maria. He comes to the realization of where he is really at, breaks off the engagement with the Baroness and asks Maria to marry him. Maria is surprised and he replies, "You can't get married to someone if you are in love with somebody else." So my question to you is which church are you in love with? Prayerfully consider that question with the Lord and follow Him where He leads you. He will find a place of ministry for you there.
I hope this helps.
A brother in Jesus,
Howard
