Hello all,

My name is Adam and after reading posts on this page for a month or so I decided not to be a silent observer. I was raised Lutheran (Lutheran Schools, Lutheran college, the whole bit). However, I was never accused of being an overly devout. I ran aground with drinking problems through the years and lived the less than holy life of addiction. I converted to Catholicism because it made logical sense to me (1997) but it was more intellectual assent than conversion at the time. However, alcohol/addiction and lack of humility kept me from "walking the walk". I got sober 9 years ago but still kept God at arms length for quite some time. In the past four years God sure has lit a  fire under me though. My marriage fell apart and left me like a drowning man clutching for something to keep him afloat. I reached out to God, and not in a small way. I begged him to take the reigns of my life. I've been growing ever since.

So, I hope to put in my two cents around here every now and again. This site is definitely a comfortable place for me to park my bookmark.

Kersca (Adam)

Welcome, Adam.  I have found over the years that God's greatest gifts to us come wrapped in the ugliest gift wrap.  But the gift wrap (suffering and pain) is temporary, while the gift is eternal.  The scripture about God restoring the years that the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25) is a wonderful image of God's power and intent in situations like yours.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Too true. The hardest times in my life have been the catalyst that God has used to bring me closer to Him. However, in all these cases we have a choice- grow or get angry. Ive seen too many people choose the latter.

God bless,

Kersca

Thanks, but the kudos belongs to God and not myself. He gives me the will, strength, and ability... in sobriety and everything.

Marcee, that is beautifully stated and something I will remember.

Adam, good to meet you.  Thank you for sharing with us how God has led you here and to Himself.

Hi Adam,

I had to think about that "park my bookmark". I get it! People here are really nice.

I'm sorry to hear that about your marriage. :( I'm in the process of getting an annulment, oh boy was that painful to talk about. Anyway it's really awesome to know that no matter how bad we've messed up God is right there waiting to forgive us and to use us. Isn't it? It's beyond comprehension. I guess that's why David said that.

Anyway, hi! I just joined the Church at the Easter Vigil. It has been so blessed so far. I'm so glad I became Catholic and to have a Church.

Anne

Anne,

God has a hand in everything, even the calamities we seem to create in  our own lives. Don't pity me at all Anne, because God has heaped huge blessings upon me despite my shortcomings, mistakes, and blunders.

I saw that you were into the more "new age" things before becoming Catholic. Welcome home. Have you posted your conversion story?

Adam

Hi Adam,

Yes I did post my conversion story and it was interesting. My life tends to skew towards interesting and God having a sense of humor with me.

Okay I won't dare pity you, but admire your resilience and courage in sharing your experiences and praise God for His work manifest in you, His precious child. How's that? :)

Yeah, God does work through the very worst things. I thought of that today with the reading from II Tim was it? That is so true.. Oh boy I could really start talking a lot now but I'll stop.. Yes my testimony is posted in the board for that I think? I think there was a board for that. There are some awesome testimonies on the website too. I think I spent like the last month before the Easter Vigil reading those and being like okay ... this is going to be okay..

Anne,

I just read your RCIA post and it was funny! I like your lighthearted approach to it all. Welcome to the Church. The funny thing is that your journey is just beginning now that you are home. I feel so much that way! I am more "Catholic" today than a year ago and so on. As a matter of fact, I am starting to take theology classes at a local catholic college in the fall. My tghirst just keeps growing and growing.

God bless

Adam
