Our weekly CHNI chat has moved to our own, dedicated chat room!

The room is available at http://chnetwork.org/chat.html.  It is accessible ONLY by registered, activated CHNI forum members.  Our "official" chat is Wednesday nights from 9-11 PM EST (6-8 PM PST).  We'll have scheduled topics some weeks, and other weeks we'll just socialize and chat about whatever's on your mind.  Dave Armstrong will serve as our moderator.

The first time you visit, you will be asked for your user name and password.  Use your CHNI name and password.  If you check "Remember me", the name and password will automatically be filled in on your return.

The room is available 24/7 so feel free to use it if you wish.  I will be monitoring activities at this time because of the possibility of abuse.

I recommend that you try logging in ahead of time.  You may need to change your system password if you don't remember what it is!

If you have any problems, you probably need to update your free Java client.  Go to http://www.java.com and click "Download Now".  Follow the prompts, and the latest Java client will be downloaded, installed, and verified.

There is an identified problem with Windows Vista, in which the blue "loading" bar appears and does not go away.  Vista users who experience this problem can find detailed instructions on how to resolve the problem here.  (NOTE:  While not a problem with the Chat program, the same problem resolution will fix extremely slow page loading with the Firefox browser, and slow email sending and receiving with Thunderbird, for users of Windows Vista.)

Awesome!  Thank you Rick.  Is there anyway we can know by looking at the list on the bottom of the forum area if people are in the chat room?

No, I'm afraid not.  The chat program uses the user base of the forum to determine who can log in, but it's a one-way link.

At the bottom of the main forum screen, you can see who has logged into the forum and had keyboard activity in the last 15 minutes.  Once someone moves to chat, their name will continue to appear until their 15 minutes is up, and then their name will be dropped, so even those logged into chat will not show up on the list at all after a while.

The chat program interfaces with the forum, but it's not actually part of the forum, so there's no way to accomplish a list on the forum.  Sorry.

If you have your sound on, you can open the chat room in one tab/window and the forum in another, and while you're using the forum you should be able to hear a sound to alert you that someone else has entered the room.

You probably need to upgrade your Java runtime.  The current version is 5.0, update 11.

You can download it for free from Sun Microsystems.  This should take you to a download page for the browser you are currently using.  If not, try this link to choose your browser.

java 1.6.0 is the latest and greatest Java plugin. Maybe it has something to do with Vista OS.

It does indeed.  I have emailed you a support page from Addon Chat dealing with the issue.

If anyone else encounters this problem with the Vista operating system, here's the AddOn message:
AddonInteractive has identified the following issue related to a combination of issues with Java 1.6, Java 1.7, and all editions of Windows Vista.      SYMPTOMS:     If, when loading the chat room, the blue loading bar appears for a very long...

I can answer that!  The weekly chat is Wednesday nights now at 8PM Eastern Standard Time until whenever.  We decided to leave the ending time open so that the west coast CHN members would feel free to stop by later.  Please feel free to join us then.

The chat room is open 24/7 however.  I stop in from time to time.  Maybe we all could do that and strike up a friendly chat now and again.:)

I've forgotten my password. :(  Since I don't remember my "old password" I can't type it and change to a new one.  I can't find it where I thought it was.

Donate your wise words here and help a "terminal blonde" get to the chat room.

thanks,
susie

The new chat room uses the same password as the forum.

If you've forgotten your forum password, log out and log back in.  You'll see a link to reset a forgotten password.  It will send you email, so make sure your profile has the right email address first.  If you've changed your email address and lost your password, once you log out you'll be gone forever!!  (Not really, since you can always send us email and we'll work something out.)

I'm glad it's after The Journey Home. ;)  Can't make it this coming Monday, but maybe next.  Up in Wisconsin for another week.  I'm looking forward to visiting Sister Mary, a Carmelite hermit nun, near La Crosse.  I'll be going to her hermitage next Friday for a couple of days.

PAX all :waving:
