I need help with the quote feature in the reply mode.
I've tried this both ways. clicked reply and just typed in my message.
I've clicked quote but couldn't restrict the quote to just one line, it gave me the entire quote. Then I found I wasn't in reply mode and couldn't figure out how to get that quote into the reply. It's probably simple to do, but my lame brain can't figure it out.
I also tried using the " " quote symbols to quote in the reply, but clicking on the symbols in the tool bar had no effect.
Hope someone can guide me in this.
Thanks in advance, Maryellen

When you click <Quote> it gives you the entire old message, and you can delete what you don't want in the quote box. If you want to quote more, look at the bottom of your screen window and you'll see the message you're replying to. You can copy a section of the original message and then paste it into your reply:
I also tried using the " " quote symbols to quote in the reply, but clicking on the symbols in the tool bar had no effect.
Select it and click the "" Quote symbols, or start and end the quote with the tags <quote> and </quote>, using brackets instead of the <> signs.

Thanks Rick. I used the brackets because when I clicked the quote and deleted what I wanted out, I still couldn't figure out how to get that quote into the reply message. I must have missed a step along the way, but the brackets worked.
I'd still like to be able to utilize the quote feature. Maybe I just need to keep trying.
Anyway, thanks for the solution. I appreciate your generosity in being moderator of this forum.

Maryellen,
Hi. I'm not sure if you have the same problem I thought I had... but when you said that you tried using the quote button and that you couldn't restrict the quote to just one line, and that it gave you the entire quote, well, I had that problem, too, but it was really simple to fix. In fact, it wasn't even something that needed fixed; it was just that I wasn't clicking in the right spot. For instance, I was trying to delete the first part of a quote, but I was trying to select from in front of the quotation marks. Then I discovered that the quote marks stay no matter what. I had to click inside the quotation marks to get rid of the parts of the quote that I wanted to delete. I don't know if that's the problem for you or not. If not, then if nothing else, it just goes to show you're not the only one who's been made to feel like a "lame brain."

Thanks, Cheri. When I clicked on the quote marks, I didn't get any "" marks. What I got is this box to write in. Problem is, my brain is truly lame - no one has to make me feel like one. I read somewhere that our brain cells start to die around age 35, so naturally after over 40 years of brain cell death, I probably don't have a lot of cells left LOL Now I have hit enter and this appears to be another box to write in. Oh well, I may never get it "right", but my attempts will suffice. Select your text before you hit the quote marks. Use the copy and paste feature just like you would in a word processor. Copy the text from the message below the message entry window into the message entry window, then select the text and hit the quote marks button. On a PC, you can also select the text and hit Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste.
The Cut, Copy, and Paste buttons at the top of the message entry window work only within the window itself. If you want to copy from the message below, you have to use the browser's copy and paste features on the Edit menu, or use the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V combination.
Pressing the Quote marks button will give you an empty box unless you first select your text. If you select your text first, it will put that text in the box.

Okay, I finally got it! Thanks. I had failed to select the text the 2nd time before hitting the "" mark.

The easiest thing to do is to hit the Quote button rather than Reply, and it adds the username of the original sender automatically. Then, delete whatever you don't want in that box. If you want additional text added, copy it from the message below, paste it, select it, then hit the double-quote-marks button.
I'm still learning it, too. I've had a couple of occasions where I haven't been able to add text after the quote box, and the only solution I found was to cancel the reply and start over. I've started hitting enter a couple of extra times before pasting the text in, which creates blank lines I can use later. Then, when I'm finished, I delete the extra blanks by arrowing down to the end, and backspacing until the cursor is right after the period of the last sentence.

Have you seen the replies I've had from Cajunrick, our moderator? If you haven't, then check them out because his last suggestion is easier than using the ""marks. I hit the quote bar instead of the reply bar, then deleted the body of your message, and typed my reply here just below the box with your quote.
