I though I would post a new "Did You Know?" topic and it would not let me?
Any ideas why?

Rich, it’s set up so that only moderators can begin a new topic. Members are then allowed to reply. If you would like to suggest a topic or provide a proposed initial post, you can PM either cajunrick or me and we will consider it.

No, that's ok. I moderate a few other boards myself and know how busy you can be keeping up with everything else. I just came across something I thought was interesting a month or so ago and investigated it and found it to be correct. I had never heard of it before and thought it would be interesting to others. I tried to post it but it would not take it.
Thanks for the reply.

The reason we did it this way is so we could prevent a flood of information. We'd rather trickle it out. Also, we are pretty specific in the kind of things we want. We want "tidbits" of information, not doctrinal but really more informational. Not "What is the Eucharist" but "Why do we genuflect". The type of questions most people never think to ask. And we certainly don't want things that are more appropriate in the individual forums. You'll note that most of the posts have drawn few responses but lots of views, and that's exactly what we wanted.
You are welcomed to post in Fellowship Hall or one of the individual forums, with a suggestion that we might consider moving it to Did You Know, and we'll most likely do it. We want your input, but it's easier to move things in than to explain why we feel the need to move things out. So far only two things have been posted by anyone other than David and myself in that forum; one was moved on our initiative, and the other was moved at the user's request.

That's fine I'll post it somewhere else and you can move it if you wish. It was a word that had French roots that we use and the meaning was one of those Ah-ha moments. Like Bethlehem meaning "House of Bread". I just didn't like the idea of bothering sending PM's with posts like that to you guys.

Posting it publicly works much better. I can move a public post. I can't take a PM and make it public.

Where might a new guy find this post about something new?
Thanks in advance for your direction.

Could you please share what you discovered? If not by posting it here, email it?
Those little a-ha moments ( like Bethlehem) are priceless.

Unfortunately, you can't. The software doesn't allow it. Just edit it to say "Please delete" or something like that, and David or I will delete it when we see it. No further explanation is necessary.

Everyone is welcome to post those "ah-ha!" moments in the appropriate forums, or in Fellowship Hall. We want "Did You Know" to be a sort of collection of Catholic trivia. These are the kinds of things that RCIA candidates often wonder about but may not even know how to ask. For example, we don't want a newbie who has just learned that the Catholic bible has more books than the Protestant bible to post it there, even if it was a startling revelation to that individual. That's not what the forum is for. What we want instead is those things that are uniquely Catholic in nature, the knowledge of which will help to enhance your worship experience.
I don't want to imply that other people can't come up with ideas on things as easily as we can, and we certainly welcome your input on everything connected with the CHN forums. We don't want it to be a place to ask questions (we already have that) or to discuss doctrine (we have that, too) but for general interest "factoids" like why the priest is wearing a certain color, or things like that. Certainly some of you who have been involved in the Church for awhile have come across valuable information we'd love to have you share, but if we open up the posting on "Did You Know" to anyone, we have to open it to everyone, and then it will change to something other than what we intended. We do not have the ability to open it to only selected users. That may be added to the software later (I've asked for it), but right now it's not part of the program.
So please feel free to post your "ah-ha" moments in Fellowship Hall or in the appropriate forum. You can then ask us either as part of the message or in a PM to move it for you, and if we agree it's appropriate we'll move it. If there are things you'd like to know that are "trivial" in nature, ask us publicly or privately and we'll try to address it for you, either there or somewhere else.
