I watched the Journey Home on EWTN last night (Dec. 10, 2007) and the guests mentioned this forum, so I thought I would join in!

My name is Renee, I am a wife and mother or 4. I am lucky enough to have a hard working husband so I can stay home and raise the children! I really enjoy not having to go "out" to work. I can dedicate myself 100% to our Lord and my vocation as a mother and wife.

I am a recent revert! Alleluia. I was raised Catholic but left the faith once I left home. 20 years later - I am back and couldn't be happier.

I am always interested in finding support in other Catholics who are passionate about the Lord and His Church. I don't seem to run into many in my own Parish - unfortunately.

Anyway, I am glad to be here and look forward to what this forum has to offer and what I can offer to it.

God bless everyone!

Renee

Hi Renee (I've always loved that name, and it was a close contender for our one daughter's name!),

Welcome to our forum.

I am always interested in finding support in other Catholics who are passionate about the Lord and His Church.

Then you have come to the right place. :D We have many many of those.

I don't seem to run into many in my own Parish - unfortunately.

That is the experience of lots of Catholics, sadly, but the good news is that the Internet has helped make it possible to overcome that particular deficiency, by allowing more -- and easier -- networking with others of like mind and heart.

We're all in this together. The more truly Catholic, Christian "community" we can experience, either in "real life" or on the Net, the better, in my opinion.

Renee,

Hello to you, too! Just want to take a moment to welcome you to the forum. I know how you feel about not being able to find support in your own parish! Mine's one of those... a lot of good folks who like to socialize, but not a lot of spiritual communion going on. But there's always a remnant. The trick is to find it. I am blessed to have a cousin whose previously nominal faith has really blossomed in the last several years. He has been trying to "get something going" in our parish. So have I - for years, but he seems to be better at it. About half a dozen of us, along with our pastor, recently had about a six-week bible study discussion group going on. The topic was a general overview of the Old Testament and God's role as our Covenantal Father - sort of going along with Scott Hahn's and Jeff Cavins' idea of "The Father's Plan."

The six-week discussion has been over for awhile, but we're trying to get another discussion started - maybe on Mary this time. We're working on it. Hopefully something will come out of it.

Anyway, my point is... it took a long time to get that much going in our parish. But persevere and don't give up hope. Keep looking for that remnant of like-minded Catholics. They're out there. I believe there are some in almost every parish. Like I said, you just have to find them and when you do, keep an eye open for opportunities to unite and "fellowship" together. But until then, this is a wonderful place to share your ideas and commune with fellow Catholics. I myself am neither a convert nor a revert - I'm an "onvert" (that is, my conversion process has been an on-going process as a Catholic "lifer." Yeah, I made up the word "onvert", but hey, I have to fit in here with the other "verts" somehow, right? It's the only "vert" word I could come up with for my situation :D... OK, I'm feeling a little silly :P...).

But I do know what it's like not to have a lot of Catholic fellowship within the realm of the Parish, and this forum is a big help. So, welcome! I hope you find this forum to be a place for you to share your faith and make new Catholic friends. God bless!

JMJ

Thanks for the welcoming words, Dave, Rick and Cheri... they are appreciated.

Cheri - I love your "onvert" creation - it's great! It's so true too. We are all in a process of daily conversion, or at least we should be!

Renee, welcome to the Forum. I look forward to being blessed by your devotion to the Lord.

Is EWTN available in your area?

I have satellite (Bell Express Vu) and have ordered EWTN and Salt and Light - they cost over and above the regular cost BUT I must say, they are well worth it.  I don't watch much else these days! ;)

Becky - do you have EWTN? If not, get it, it's awesome! :D

A warm welcome to Vanessa too. Kick up your feet and stay awhile. You are among friends. We share experiences and frustrations and even talk theology once in a while!

Hello everyone!

I'm new here too.  I'm just watching Marcus Grodi on EWTN right now and decided to log into this website.  I've come home, at last!  I was away from my Catholic faith for MANY years.  When I finally decided to return to the church -- I picked evangelical, Pentecostal church.  I was in the Protestant faith for approx. 12 yrs before I returned home -- to my Catholic faith.

My mother died 2 yrs ago and the only peace and comfort I found was in my Catholic faith and the mass.  I'm so glad to embrace my faith, once more.  This time it's with a fervor and love that I did not experience while growing up Catholic.  Everything is new to me, and I'm learning all about Catholicism like I never did before.

God Bless everyone and I hope to contribute in a meaningful and helpful way.

Brenda.

Hi, Brenda, welcome to the forum.  I spent some time as a hospice chaplain and bereavement counselor, and I can assure you your experience is not unique.  Catholics in general process grief after the loss of a loved one better than other Christians.  Stangely enough, it was often a great comfort to even fundamentalists and evangelicals to hear Catholic theology regarding purgatory and the communion of saints (without using Catholic terminology, of course)!

Your mother has led you back to the Church, and quite possibly to us.  Please let us know how we can help.

A warm welcome to Brenda! My dad was raised in Essex, Ontario, and most of my relatives live somewhere in Ontario (my mother being an only child).
