Do the mods have access to individual members PMs? Meaning, can they read them?

Should it be necessary there are ways that we can access them, but under normal circumstances, no.
Moderators have the ability to log in under your name. I have never done it, and would never think of doing it, unless a user was reporting a problem that I needed to see for myself, or to change a password, or something like that. If I am logged in as a user, I can do anything you can do, including read PMs. Of course, I have never done it, but if a user claimed she was being harrassed by another user we do have tools to investigate.
We can also download the database of private messages and read them that way, but it would be like reading an encyclopedia with no white space and the text interspersed with gibberish.

Thanks  One website owner (not here!) said they were monitoring PM's. I asked here and at the parenting site I frequent just to see if it was common to have the ability to be able to do that.
