Sometimes I feel like my computer isn't working up to speed and feel the urge to hit the "send" button for a second time. How will I know for sure if what I wrote will go through the first time? I hate to take up space unncessarily on your pages or look like some ego case in love with seeing his words in print.
Thanks,
Steven Barrett

The system will not let you send two messages within a few seconds of each other. If you accidentally do, just edit the second posting to read "Posted in error. Please delete this message." or something like that, and I'll know to delete it. It's only happened a few times and I've deleted the second posting each time, but I've always wondered if the two were exactly the same, so it is better if you mark the message like I indicated.

Well, after I wrote that last reply, I discovered that there were a ton of duplicate postings today from several different members! Apparently there was a problem with the system, or the Internet, or something. The problem may get worse as Christmas approaches. If you can, please check to see if your message has posted more than once and if it has, edit it as I mentioned in my previous reply. It will help me to determine which messages should be deleted and make sure that if they are not identical, I don't delete the wrong one.

I had a lot of trouble posting today. I get time outs in Safari. I back up to the thread and I don't realize that I am not at the end of the thread. I don't see my post so I submit again. Lather rinse repeat. I wonder why posting times out? I seem to be able to view the site without any trouble.

It is partly an Internet problem, partly a software problem, and partly a problem with the settings we use on the forum.
If it takes you more than 15 minutes to compile your answer, the forum logs you out, so when you click "Send" it has to log you back in before it can process the message.
The amount of Spam on the Internet right now is huge, and it delays EVERYTHING including messages on the forum.
We are impatient. We tend to think if nothing is happening after a few seconds, we must have missed clicking the button, so we click it again. Our computer stores up to 20 keystrokes, so it's actually possible to save a message 20 times.
CHN is a non-profit organization. Chances are the forum server is not state of the art, and the CHN Internet connection is not the fastest available.
All of the above add together to create lag. And when you add in our human impatience, we end up clicking the "Send" button more than once, and that results in duplicate posts. It's a fact of life and not a big deal.
When I see duplicate posts, I always leave the last one since it is the most likely to have been edited. If you want to help us out, pick the message you want to keep and edit the rest of them. Delete ALL CONTENT from the message and type in something like "Duplicate Post" or "Please Delete" or something obvious like that, and when we see the message, we'll take care of it. I do fear deleting the wrong post, so please make it as obvious as posslbe so if I'm sneaking in a forum check at work, I can handle it quickly and accurately.
