Hi! My name is Karli. I am a senior at the University of Minnesota (soon to be graduate student at UC Irvine) and I was very recently baptized Catholic! I stumbled across this site tonight while I was supposed to be doing homework, and am pretty excited about it. I really wish I would have found this 2 years ago when I spent a lot of time talking to random Catholics on myspace trying to figure out what all this Catholic stuff was about. This seems like a great place for discussion with really great resources. I look forward to discussing more with all of you!

p.s. I noticed Dave Armstrong posts on here, one of his books was really clarifying for me during my conversion, A Biblical Defense of Catholicism. Great book Dave!

Thanks for joining, Karli.  :hi:  We're glad to have you here with us.  Be sure to check out Quo Vadis, our special area for young people.  It's exciting to me that we have quite a few college age members, along with all us old fogies!!  Can't wait for you to meet Kayla and Racaela and Brian and the rest.

If his head gets any bigger we're going to have to enlarge the forum!  :eyeroll:

I have that one also and I found it to be very helpful in my Journey toward the Faith. However, I am NOT going to tell Dave. I don't want him to need to buy a bunch of new hats. New hats can be expensive!!! ;)

BTW, if you like "Bible defense" books, I am curremtly finishing The Biblical Basis for the Papacy by John Salza. In my opinion, it is also an excellent book.

Hi Karli,

Welcome!  We were E Free for a long time, too, and also have in common UCI.  Our daughter is hoping to start there as a junior next winter quarter.  It's not exactly a "small world" over there, though!  That campus is enormous!  What are you doing graduate work in?

God bless!
Jill

thanks everyone!

Jill, I am going to be starting a Ph.D. in Earth System Science. I will either be looking at the effect of climate change on groundwater storage or the cryosphere (ice sheets like Greenland and Antarctica). I'm very excited! Irvine may be a big school, but it actually feels small to me, it's about half the size of the U of MN.

Thanks also for the invite to the youth forum, I will definately check that out :)

Welcome Karli,

I find EWTN very informative regardless of the program. I'm sure your schedule is packed, but if there are times when you could view the channel I know it will help you to grow in faith.

Hi, Karli, say hello to Kolthoff Hall for me. I spent grad school on the 4th floor, 1990-1993. (it was not my finest hour).

UC will be nice. I think you will find the people there very friendly. That was my experience in California. Almost everybody there is from somewhere else so they know what it's like to be a stranger. Don't be a stranger here, we would love hearing about your experiences.:D

Welcome again, Karli (I said "hi" in another thread, too).

Praise God that something this poor sinner wrote was of some use to you in your journey.
