Hello,

I am going through RCIA in the fall.  Me and my husband have been in the Assemblies of God for about 15 years, so this is all my children have known. They are 9 and 11. I am wondering if anyone knows good resources to help them understand the Mass and the church in general. It is so different for them because they have always been in a seperate service aimed at children. I am hoping that with some resources I can help make the transition easier for them.

Also are there any good devotional books for families or for kids that are Catholic? We have always used one in our homeschooling, but all of the ones we have are from a Protestant view. I would like to use one that is Catholic.

Thank you for any help you can give :) I look forward to getting to know people on here.

Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer, welcome to the Coming Home Network and to the Catholic faith.  We hope you'll find the information you're looking for.  I'm sure some of our members will have excellent suggestions.

We're glad to have you here with us and look forward to having you share your faith story when you are ready to do so.  Thanks for stopping by.

Welcome home.

When we started becoming Catholic I switched to the Faith and Life curriculum from Ignantious press. It is for grades 1-8 and has Catechism questions at the end of every chapter. This is an actual course on what the church believes not just a devotional. Seton Home has a whole line of Catholic homeschool curriculum of which I have used their Language arts materials. Good solid grammar etc but the examples tell stories of the lives of saints.

The Faith and Life series is also recommended by Catholics United for the Faith.  You'll find their reviews and a lot about the series here.

God's peace, and congratulations on your decision!  I have found that CCC of America's cartoon presentation of the Old Testament, In the Beginning, is great for kids and adults alike (although a bit intense for little bitties--pre-view them first).  These were put together by a team of Japanese anime artists and have a lovely musical prelude as well.  They are available only in VHS. http://www.cccofamerica.com/ also has some good devotional material in cartoon storybook format. Blessings, ~Br_Carlo~

Seton Homeschooling and Catholic Heritage Curriculum is excellent for children. This is what I use in homeschooling my children.

I have been looking at Seton to use in our next school year. I will be going to a Catholic homeschool conference in about a week, so hopefully I get a chance to look at it there. I will look out for the others as well.

Thank you to everyone's suggestions! It has helped me to know what to take a look at.

Are you going to the conference at the Dulles expo center this weekend? I have been wishing I could go but between the cost of spending the night and other committments I can't. Tell us all a bout it when you get back!
