Hey friends:

I will be participating in the Rite of Acceptance this Sunday.  There are 11 folks in my RCIA class.  More than half the class are already baptized; their Rite has another name (but we are doing it at the same time).

I'm looking forward to going to the regular 9 am Mass again.  I've been attending a 7:30 am Mass at a Mission Church prior to RCIA (which has been starting at 9 am).   But from now on we will be going to Mass for the Liturgy of the Word and then be dismissed.  I may still attend the early Mass so I can be present for the Consecration, but I've been missing the incense and the singing at the 9 am Mass so I will get that back.

Anybody else have an RCIA event coming up?

Ruth

November 11 is a little early for the Rite of Acceptance.  Most places won't have that rite until the First Sunday of Advent, which I believe is on December 2 this year.  Not that early is wrong, just not the normal date.

Rick:

I believe that after the Rite of Acceptance, the Candidates are going to be in a different class.  The early date may be so that the Candidates can be received into the Church earlier than next Spring.

Everybody in my class, baptized or not, seems already very familiar with Catholic doctrine.  Most are also going to Mass on Saturday evening, or leaving RCIA to attend the 11:15 Mass.

I believe this was about the time last year that we had our Rite of Acceptance as well.  Enjoy these wonderful Rites; I loved them all.

Ruth, what is the religious ed for adults situation there (post-RCIA)?

Many opportunities provided?

Becky:

We are getting ready to start a series called "Why Catholic?" which one member of the RCIA team calls "RCIA for Catholics".

The Daughters of the King Order has a Bible Study every week.  They have two groups -- one that meets on Thursday night, and the other that meets on Friday morning.

There is a a charismatic prayer group that meets every Monday evening.

There are "Catholic Viewpoint" sessions with visiting speakers from time to time.  The next one has to do with the Death Penalty in Kentucky.

RCIA graduates are welcome to keep going to RCIA during their first year as Catholics so that they can continue learning and also so that they can help others.

Also, our priest is a wonderful homilist, so every Mass is religious ed!

How wonderful that you are in such a place!

I'm so happy to hear that.:)
