Hello Again CHN Friends!

The key word for Thanksgiving in our home this year will be "diversity."  While my husband and I agree that religion should not be a topic of conversation, one never knows what will happen.

The participants at this Thanksgiving meal will be:

1. My husband (of course) who is a staunch Evangelical Christian.

2. Our daughter, a Christian but very open-minded toward many Christian faiths.

3. Our son, a self-proclaimed Atheist, and very proud to be one.

4. Our daughter-in-law, a very weak Christian who was baptized in the Catholic faith but never taught well.  She eventually accepted Christ in our former Baptist Church and was baptized there.

5. Our two precious grand children, ages 1 and 4.

6. My mother-in-law, a staunch Episcopalian, whose church recently closed.  The priest was a gay man who had left his wife and family.  The church she attends now is Episcopal, but does not have a gay priest.

7. My brother-in-law, also an Episcopalian, but not as staunch as my mother-in-law.

8. My brother-in-law's wife, a former Catholic turned Episcopalian.

9. Our daugher-in-law's father, who used to be an atheist, who married a Catholic, and believes in God ever since, in his words, he saw the "The Passion of Christ."  We went to that movie with him and it had a profound effect on his beliefs.

10. Our very close friend of over 25 years, who is a former Catholic turned Evangelical.  He is very much against the Catholic faith.  Some of it has to do with his experiences in Catholic school.

11.  Me, an Evangelical Christian, on a journey toward the Catholic faith.

I expect we will have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Darlene

Darlene, your message reminded me of the old Chinese curse:

May you live in interesting times!

I hope you have an interesting day!

Sounds fun Darlene. Our family gathering will be just as wonderful. Mostly aunts and uncles who don't speak to one another, and the religious ones are the worst. Methodist who don't trust baptist, baptist who don't trust episcopalians, and every one of them think my wife, son, and I have lost our minds and souls for becoming Catholic. This is our first thanksgiving with the family after our conversion to the Catholic Church last Easter. I can't wait!

Seriously, we just have to live our faith and love them as best we can. I will not argue with any of them. I will simply try to walk it, by God's grace, and remember that but by God's grace I would still be wading in the shallows myself.  How our Father longs for everyone to come Home.

Peace,
Keith

Wow.  That's quite a list!  My extended family is all Baptist (except for one uncle who is a Methodist minister).  They are all very "grieved" at our decision to become Catholic.  But theological debates always come up because my dad is very enthusiastic about spreading the truth of Catholicism. ;)

I almost wish that I could be a "fly on the wall" for your Thanksgiving gathering.  It sounds like it could be VERY interesting.

Yes, me too! I would rather be a spectator than a participant. But, that's how it goes. My wife and I will say the rosary on our way to their house. It is about an hour drive. Actually, it always makes for some good stories. You never know what will come up!

Peace,
Keith
