Hello Everyone,

Just thought I would mention what we are using in RCIA and welcome any responses on it.  The text is called, "Invitation - The Search for God, Self and Church.  A Catholic Learning Guide for Adults"  by Rev. Alfred McBride, O. Praem.  (BTW, what does O. Praem mean?)  At the bottom of the cover it says "Revised in light of the Catechism of the Catholic Church."

The following are the chapters listed under the Contents.

1.  The Human Longing for God

2.  The Creation

3.  People of God - Body of Christ - Temple of the Spirit

4.  God's Initiative in Human History

5.  The unique Word of Holy Scripture

6.  The Stages of the Promise

7.  The Word Became Flesh

8.  Mysteries of Christ's Public Life

9.  The Paschal Mystery

10.  Come, Holy Spirit

11.  I Believe in the Holy Catholic Church

12. The Celebration of the Christian Mysteries

13. The Sacraments of Initiation

14.  The Bread of Life

15. Forgive Me, Father

16  "Are Any Among You Sick?"

17.  "What God Has Joined Together..."

18.  Holy Orders

19.  The Vocation of the Laity

20.  Social Justice

21.  "That They May All Be One" John 17:21

22.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for Us

23.  A Faith Journey Through the Liturgical Year

24.  Death Shall Have No Dominion

25.  I Believe...We Believe in God

26.  Praise the Lord

Are any of you out there familiar with this text?  It seems very sound and informative.  I intend to start reading it regularly starting today.  The Appendix also has additional info on prayers for Catholics, different kinds of virtues, gifts and fruits of the Spirit, Order of Mass, Seven Capital Sins, and a few others.  This text seems very thorough to me.

The parish I am attending seems conservative and in union with the Magesterium from what this Protestant can tell.  Also, the RCIA director gave me the Catholic Catechism which is very thick!  Learning about the Catholic Faith is like attending college classes all over again.

The priest is a member of the Canons Regular of PrĂ©montrĂ©, a religious order founded by St. Norbert in 1120.  They are also known as the Norbertines.

When you see a book that says it was revised because of the Catechism, it usually means the book was originally written before the release of the Catechism, and the wording was adjusted in subsequent editions to make it fit the phraseology of the Catechism more directly, any minor differences were corrected, and it was cross-referenced to sections of the Catechism.

The book sounds good and orthodox from the table of contents you posted.

Over the years Fr. Alfred McBride has also done several programs for EWTN.

Well if Father McBride was on EWTN and he wrote the text for RCIA that I'm attending, then I think I'm right on track!

Father McBride also wrote several catechisms (for teens, for families, for college students) and is a very clear and orthodox writer.  (He is to be distinguished from the controversial Father McBrien of Notre Dame, who is described by many as dissenting.)  I was also told that Father McBride was going to be one of the authors of the USCCB Adult Catechism, which has recently been issued.  So he's very top-notch! :)

I am going through individual RCIA instruction. We are using the "Journey of Faith" packets from Liguori Publishing. Has anyone else used these in RCIA?
