Ernie Freeman, former Assemblies of God pastor

February 22, 2016

Marcus welcomes former Assemblies of God member and fellow alum of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Ernie Freeman. Ernie grew up in Mississippi in a Southern Pentecostal environment with only a negative connotation of Catholicism. His first encounter with a Catholic liturgy was in military basic training. After attending a Biblical studies program and attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, he worked as an independent charismatic leader and an Assemblies of God pastor. However, every time he stepped to the pulpit he had the same restless thought: “Lord, I hope this is the truth, ... more

Lisa Campbell: Former Assembly of God

October 12, 2015

Lisa grew up in a terribly dysfunctional home. After bad experiences with Pentecostal “revivals” and living a young adulthood of drugs, violence, and suffering, Lisa sought refuge in an Assembly of God church. Lisa was introduced to Catholicism after she married a cradle-Catholic. Through him she became drawn to the Catholic faith. To read more about Lisa’s journey, check out her written conversion story. Also, go to the apostolate with which she works: armyofapostles.com. ... more

Pamela Sullivan: Former Assemblies of God

August 24, 2015

Pamela’s father was interested in many religions. She spent her first eight years in the Mormon church. Later they moved on to a Baptist congregation. When she was twelve she accepted Jesus but she didn’t really understand what she was doing. Her parents continued to church hop causing her to be very confused and without a spiritual home. Finally, as a teen, Pamela found a home in the Assembly of God, where she learned to love Christ and be immersed in Holy Scripture. In college sadly Pamela rebelled ... more

Finding the Vanishing Point: My Journey to the Catholic Church

June 1, 2015

I sat praying in a Catholic church at Holy Cross Monastery near Tombstone, AZ. This was unusual for me, since I wasn’t Catholic. I had accompanied my mother-in-law, who was mourning her husband. This had been a place they had liked to stop and pray. As I knelt, I prayed: “God, I don’t understand the Catholic Faith, but I’d like to. This is so strange to me — the candles, the images, the whole culture — but I’d like to understand. If there is anything good here to ... more

Fr. Greg Paffel: A Catholic Who Returned from the Assemblies of God

November 24, 2014

Father Greg was raised in a Catholic family but, though he believed in God, he only remembers praying with his heart twice when he was young. Sadly, he had next to no catechesis. Even though he attended Mass he did not know the faith. When he was a junior in high school, a friend asked him if he knew Jesus and invited him to his Assembly of God youth group. His faith grew through the witness of his new friends. In college, he continued his personal prayer time and visited ... more

Michael Cousineau: An Assemblies of God Who Returned to the Catholic Church

November 17, 2014

Mike was brought up Catholic. While in college his journey away from the Church began when a friend’s mother led him in the sinner’s prayer. While in the military, a friend finished the process by challenging many core Catholic teachings. After he was married, he pulled the family completely out of the Church because he didn’t want his Children to be taught Catholic corruptions. At first, the family attended a Baptist congregation and later the Assemblies of God. For many years he was an active Sunday school ... more

And The Truth Will Set You Free: How I Was Reconciled to the Catholic Church

August 4, 2014

I have to begin my conversion story by relating something of my family life. My father worked for the government as an air traffic controller. They transferred him wherever they wished even though he had a family. So, we moved from state to state when I was a little girl. My youngest brother and I were born in Minnesota, our home state. I was born in 1948 in Minnesota and baptized October 31 that same year in Selma, Alabama, which tells how often we moved. My other brother and sister were each ... more

Dr. Dale Pollard is a former Lutheran, Baptist, Assembly of God and Presbyterian.  Dale joins Marcus in sharing his long journey through many strands of Protestantism into the Catholic Church.  His family spent time in Seattle, WA, Huntsville, AL and Cocoa Beach, FL due to his father’s aerospace engineering job with Boeing.  Led by a passion for beauty, Dale, over time, was drawn to churches that welcomed him and provided a sense of community.  He continued to grow in a commitment to Christ and a calling to assist others, ... more
